Rep. Steve King will leave Congress after this year, ending a nearly two-decade-long career that included numerous inflammatory comments on race and immigration.

The Iowa Republican lost his bid for a 10th term on Tuesday, when GOP voters in his northwest Iowa district awarded state Sen. Randy Feenstra with the nomination after a fierce primary battle with King.
....

Wheeeeeee! Message to Republicans. Message to Republicans. White supremacy is a political dead end. It is not winning politics.

He was in IA-04, the 4th Congressional District in Iowa.

The vote, with 100% counted (New York Times):

Randy Feenstra 36,797 45.7%
Steve King* 28,977 36.0
Jeremy Taylor 6,295 7.8
Bret Richards 5,983 7.4
Steven Reeder 2,463 3.1

The Confederate flag is an odd one for an Iowan to fly, since Iowa was in the Union in the Civil War.

That represents his heritage as a racist not as an Iowan

The Lincoln Project, a group of anti-Trump republicans, actually had the guts to call out the confederate flag for what it is.

One small step toward what is needed, the Republican party making it clear that they won't tolerate white suprematism and other forms of overt racism that they have supported up to now. Then we have to get them to stop supporting the underlying systemic racism that separates us from what we are now to what we want to be.

I wouldn't interpret this result in that way, necessarily. His 'usurper' may wind up being worse.

King lost because he was thrown out of his committee seats, not because he’s a racist piece of shit. People are giving Iowans way too much credit.

They are, but I hope the national attention puts a bit more pressure on the new guy to be decent.

Or at a bare minimum, spell negro with one g, not two.

His main argument for getting the job was that King could no longer provide SCROTUS the support he needed in Congress, because King had been gelded.

I hope King runs as an independent and splits the 'R' vote. (I've stopped using the word "Republican"; I'll just use 'R', which may as well stand for 'racist').

The person that beat King lost to him the last time by a very narrow margin. It is said the new winner is a progressive republican, whatever that means.

This is interesting. In Louisiana, this would just be Round 1. King and Feenstra would face each other in a runoff election. It seems the Iowa GOP doesn't mind a candidate who hasn't demonstrated majority support of the party.

Mr. Feenstra is described by his wife as a conservative Repubican. He attended Dordt college which is a Christian institution. His son is going to attend Dordt college.

I suspect that while Mr. Feenstra may not be a raging racist ass, he is not what one might consider as a "progressive" Republican.

he won that primary with heavy donations from the national right to life committee and US chamber of commerce, as well as getting vocal support from noted racist piece of absolute shit ben fucking shapiro.

so yeah, this feenstra guy is a real fuckwad. likely iowa traded a nominally secular racist piece of shit for a fundamentalist racist piece of shit forced birther.
