Speak about alarmist reporting. The kid isn't getting a life sentence, he isn't going to be sentenced to jail longer than a murderer.

The problem with the actual story is that the MINIMAL sentence is 5 years, which is absolutely absurd for a marijuana-ish conviction! And then there is the whole felony record bonus he'd have. Maybe if he is a Houston Texans fan he can get time served and plead down to a charge that may even be reasonably reasonable.
 
I predict there will be a gold mine of legal work for attorneys who file the paperwork to expunge the criminal records of people who were convicted of marijuana possession.
