The Cowardice of the Conservative.

It is our innate conservatism that stops us. If we went from being conservatives to raving reactionaries then we wouldn't be conservatives now would we?
No, there are plenty of reactionary conservatives.

There are either reactionary or conservative. Make up your mind.

Conservatism, which can also be manifest in the desire to avoid change or perceived change, was the a part of the impetus for the South to secede, the formation of the Klan, the founding of the John Birch Society, the anti-gay marriage amendments to state constitutions, and the recent passage of HB2 in NC.

Progressivism, which can also be manifest in the desire to have change or perceived change, regardless of consequences, was a part of the rise of communism, nazism and so many other isms. In my state of Victoria (and other parts of Australia) in the early 1980s closed down all the asylums suddenly without due regard for the consequences of the inmates who were thrown on the streets with minimal or no care. Prostitution was legalised without regard to the consequences. We still see the results today.

Change for its own sake is a disaster more often than not.

And that thing would be ... ?

As I said above,

We could explain it to you, but you could never understand it, because you are under the same mental framework as they are, bolted down so firm to your "side" and your identity politics that you can't see the other as rational people much less consider or try to understand anything they have to say. I know that you won't ever accept it, but some of us sit between your two extremes and can see rational thought on both ends of your political spectrum.... and we can then think things through without emotionally freaking out or reacting with the knee jerk responses and personal attacks and stock phrases that you and they are so famous for.

You sound so.. so.... so conservative! :)

Careful now. You might be accused of dissing Athena. Then the fun police will come for you.

False equivalency. One can be a reactionary about one thing, conservative about another, and liberal about yet something else. And then there other ways of being wrong, a victim of conspiracy-think or self delusion for example.
