The idea of 'Freedom' to some an echo of earlier times?

I am in Texas. Due to covid-19, I have groceries delivered, ordered online at the local Walmart. I am not allowed to get beer this way, or wine. I cannot order rum on line and have it shipped to me. Texas is run by the GOP. Small government touting GOP. We have big government nanny state rules all over the place. GOP is for small government? Don't make me laugh!

Buying alcohol online is probably restricted due to not knowing the age of the buyer. It at least makes some sense, you don't want underage people buying liquor willy nilly. (In California, we can't self checkout at the store if we buy alcohol.) But there is nothing stopping you going to the store and buying it surely ?

Secure systems to buy alcohol online could be set up. Locally we have online sports betting--reasonably secure. You have to go to a casino that offers it and register in person. Once you have done that you can place your bets online. (As for self-checkout and alcohol, I'm surprised. I thought everybody did it with a system that if you make an age-restricted purchase at self-checkout that the register demands a cashier verification, not that the transaction was simply impossible. I don't buy alcohol but I occasionally make restricted purchases from the hardware store.)

As for why he doesn't want to buy it in person--that means venturing out into danger. Just because you're willfully blind to the threat doesn't mean we don't have a quarter of a million dead.
