The Minds of Trump Supporters

I just got back from Home Depot. Some halfwit in a Trump hat had to interrupt when I was checking out because he was worried about “those criminals” that just walked by. “They're all criminals” he said as he demanded the attention of the cashier that was scanning my items and interacting with my dog to break the boredom of a near empty store during the Super Bowl. I felt bad leaving her there because he was still going when we left.
From looking at the security measures I see in Home Depot I would say that "those criminals" are the tradespeople. Stuff aimed at the DIY crowd is generally much lower security than stuff aimed at those who do it for a living--and note that that includes the supplies they use even if they're fairly low value items (I'm thinking of the electrical aisle.)

Shrinkage is up. It just isn't at the apocalyptic levels Fox News wants people to believe they are.

I haven't noticed any appreciable increase in security. Electric has had monitoring for as long as I can remember, most tools were corralled long ago (but the separate checkout from the tool area hasn't been there for quite a while--you have to exit in plain view but with no barrier.) Most of the power tools you have to specifically ask for and another section has been growing in another aisle with some of the bigger tools (pressure washers, bigger battery-operated things and the like) are locked up, they escort you to the register.

It's all new here. Only in the last six months has anything been caged.

Adult shoplifters have no particular demographic other that "general asshole". That is, they are the same people who bully others, quit school or their job without a plan, cut class or miss days of work, stay out to the wee hours of the morning, flop over friends house for extended periods, etc. You know the type. They have no direction in life. They sit around waiting for good luck to shine on them. That's their plan. When it doesn't work out, they blame everyone but themselves. And they steal stuff.
My ex worked loss prevention for more than ten years. She has busted them all, great and small. If it skewed in any direction it was middle age women but this would be particular to the type of store she worked at.
It wouldn't necessarily be tradespeople stealing from HD or Lowe's. These stores are for DIYers. Folks in the trades mostly buy from supply houses. Tradespeople go to these DIY stores in a pinch.

My wife, many many years ago, caught an elderly, well to do woman switching price tags on clothing at the JC Penney my wife worked at.

Shrinkage is up. A decent amount. It isn't huge, but it is noticeable. There definitely have been changes in store setups at the local big box Home Depots and Lowes. Among other places. Fox News wants people to think it is mad max out there. It isn't that bad, but it is worse.
