The church where Michael Brown's father attended was burned down a week after Michael Brown Sr. was baptised. Rev. Carlton Lee is pastor.

At first, Lee remained in the background as other preachers with national profiles descended on Ferguson and became spokesmen for the Brown family after the death. Lee held private counseling sessions each Tuesday with Michael Brown Sr.

In September, when it seemed less likely with each passing day that police Officer Darren Wilson would be charged, he broke his silence. He signed up to be a regional representative for Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. He declared publicly, for the first time, that he believed Wilson should be arrested.

That’s when hateful messages and death threats started — from Wilson supporters, from white supremacist groups and from Internet bigots.

“Seventy-one death threats. But I’ll never forget what one man said to me: ‘I’m going to come pick you up with all you other hateful n----- preachers and put you all in your church and burn you straight to hell.’ ”

All that is left of the church, Lee says, is the charred banner that had hung proudly at the front door.

Conoco gas station and convenience store. Conoco is owned by Doug Merello and the business has been in his family since 1984. Merello says he feels deep ties to Ferguson. Fortunately for Merello, the Ferguson community feels the same color-blind love for him and his neighborhood gas station.

A group of black residents, armed with high-powered rifles and pistols, stood guard over Conoco during the riots. They chased away anyone threatening to loot, shoplift or otherwise do harm to the gas station.

Why did these African-American men protect this white-owned business? According to the men, it is a matter of respect.

According to Las Vegas Review-Journal, the men say they feel indebted to Merello. He has employed them the last several years and always treated them with respect.

Michael Brown's family called for arson. Obviously they consider arson acceptable, why should they object to this?

More importantly, do _YOU_ object to this?
And more relevant, do you think Brown's family is _surprised_ by this destruction of their property after the wanton destruction of their son?

And more pointed, do you realize it was two different parts of the family? So the "they" that you conveniently lump together aren't part of the same family? One is his father and the other is his stepfather? And knowing that do you still think your comment makes any sense, or does it sound more like petulant hateful bullshit?

Michael Brown's family did not call for arson. His stepfather yelled Burn this *** bitch.

The question Loren is, why don't YOU object to this?
The qustion is, why is a burnt church more important than a burnt down restaurant, store, etc.?

No, that is your question. And it is a question that I see no call for since no one has said that a burnt church is more important.

Well for some reason it warranted you starting a thread for it while you did not for any of the other structures burnt down in Ferguson.

Disappointed.. I thought the "other side" was going to be discussion of how 91% of all violent crimes against blacks are committed by blacks, and this isn't even one of the 9%, since this man had assaulted a police officer and was in physical contact with the officer's gun when it went off at point blank range. black people are not being gunned down by police... bad people that act like bad people get stopped.

Does anyone even remember that the LA riots and looting after the Rodney King trial was about a FUCKING CRIMINAL that was EVADING CAPTURE? Well, this Ferguson guy was a ROBBER, ASSAULTING A POLICE OFFICER.

The so-called "witness" that made false claims should be arrested for inciting riots.

Derec, sometimes you make me feel tired all over.

I would explain it to you, but why? If you can't see, it's because you don't want to. And I have no time for willful blindness.

When you find your way to the actual op (which is in two parts btw,) let the rest of us know, ok?

But by all means, continue on.

if you really want me to.... and since you asked...

Edited

Act like a fucking human being and get treated like a fucking human being.

There is a lot of racism coming from black people.. a sort of affirmative action for racism.. they are allowed to be at least a little racist by society. So, when a black person in a black community is so much as looked at by a white cop, outrage inevitably follows. How DARE they step on his sneakers.

What about when a white cop nearly slams his vehicle into a black guy. Is the black guy allowed to get upset?

I aim to please. ;)

Please do. It is obvious you think the church arson is more significant than the beauty store arson or the pizza place arson or the auto parts store arson. This is an atheist forum, so it can't be because it's a church per se. Is it perhaps because you think that unlike these other cases the arsonists are white? Have any suspects been identified or arrested anyway?

No, he wasn't a robber
He was a robber. A robber is somebody who engages in robbery. A robbery is theft with a threat or use of force. Since Brown stole the cigarillos and assaulted the owner that makes him a robber.
and it's up in the air about who started the assault.
Wilson would have no reason to attack Brown. Brown had reason to attack Wilson - to avoid going to jail. Furthermore his buddy Johnson said that he was acting crazy, perhaps on account of all the marijuana in his system, which would have affected his inhibitions and reasoning powers - i.e. it would have made a stupid idea to avoid arrest seem like a good idea at the time.

Face it, Brown was playing cops and robbers with live ammo and lost.

Mr. Brown did not assault anyone under the normal understanding of term.

What's the "normal" understanding of the term?
