The RCC is is a reality unto itself. The perfect mix of church and state'

An Irisman promoted? Lets see when there is an Irish pope, or American, or black African. Never going to happen.

A professor of 'fundamental theology'.

Pope appoints key posts, including nun in development office

Francis promoted Irish Monsignor John Kennedy to head the discipline section of the newly named Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, which handles clergy sexual abuse cases. In a 2019 interview with The Associated Press, Kennedy said the office had seen a “tsunami” of cases from parts of the world that had previously not reported any.

Joining him as secretary in the parallel doctrine section of the dicastery is Italian Monsignor Armando Matteo, currently the under-secretary in the office and professor of fundamental theology at Rome’s Pontifical Urbaniana University.

The powerful department is headed by Jesuit Cardinal Luis Ladaria, who at 78 could retire when his five-year term expires in July.

This is one for the Protestants. They love to say how terrible the Catholic Church is. True, it is terrible, but Protestants are no better.

People said 'never going to happen' about a Pope who wasn't Italian, too.

It's only a matter of time before we see a Pope from sub-Saharan Africa. That's one of the few places in the world where Roman Catholicism is growing in both sheer numbers of adherents, and the strength of those adherents' faith in the church.

Ireland was, until very recently, a totally committed Catholic nation with a hugely devout populace. And then, suddenly, it's not. So now the Vatican is scrambling to stop the rot - because as usual, they couldn't bring themselves to believe that 'their' people would really turn their backs on the church, until it was far too late.

The Vatican is quite capable of acting quickly to solve problems, as long as you consider less than a century a 'quick' response.

That was fine in the Middle Ages, when changes were few and far between, but it was never going to cut it once the Industrial Revolution got rolling.
