I was laughing at this earlier:

Where is the transitional fossil record between Microsoft OS versions? Why did 6.22 jump to 7.0?

They can be found in the Microsoft Shale. For every OS Microsoft has released, there are probably 10 that got as far as beta testing before they realized it was already obsolete.
