Iranian Missile Accidentally Brought Down Ukrainian Jet, Officials Say, Citing Early Evidence https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/09/world/middleeast/iran-plane-crash-ukraine.html

Although both the United States and Iran now appear to be backing away from a larger military confrontation, the new intelligence suggests that the loss of life from the downing of the plane was a direct result of those heightened tensions between the countries.

POTUS of unintended consequenses needs to take a minute to understand what he probably has caused.

Naw. I'm going back to he's become a laughing (and crying) stock. Idiot, no, Idot. He can't spell either. Complete disguised bald headed dufus jellowing about.

Whilst Trump doing some self reflection on unintended consequences would be fucking fantastic, putting this solely on him is a bit of a stretch.
And let's be honest; if Trump thought about consequences, the "lesson" he would have "learned" would be unilaterally striking Iran is okay, because their response makes Iran look even more like the bad guy.

Have to disagree here. Trump is solely responsible for scaring the shitout of Iran to the extent they became a certain hair trigger for any unexpected activity. Nobody believes the Iranians are sane, they're Jihadists for christ sake. Its up to responsible leaders to take that in to account when they want to make a political and tactical statement.

Just because Trump can't reason is no reason to blame another nation for the US failing to control Trump's lack of reason. It's on the US government, the US legislative branch and US judicial branches to find ways to keep such idiocy from becoming the trigger for some lunie state to attack our allies because they are frightened by the Dufus in Chief.

He's in the WH because some wanted to shake things up. Unfortunately that turned on the off switch for proper governance because they could defer to the Narcissist in charge because he was 'scary'. Time to turn on governance again. With how much BS are we to take because governing people are afraid of the Dufus in Chief.

OK McConnell its time to put things back in order. Do a Reagan. Call a Dufus a Dufus and set him aside.

I mean how many 'accidental as the result of dumb things' deaths do you need to know you fucked up. Keep it up and you'll be in the position Boeing is in now. Just one more planeload of innocents and you're bound for pariah land.

At least they finally shitcanned their CEO.

And he walks away with a $60 million golden parachute. What a way to fail up.

I do not see how it's Boeing's fault. Are they supposed to build planes that can withstand anti-aircraft missiles now?

And how is it Trump's fault that the Iranians shot down a plane full of Iranians? That's on the Iranians.

While I am not a fan of Trump, the Iranian military (or paramilitaries) are responsible for their actions. If they effed up, that is on them. No one forced them to shoot down any plane.

This makes no sense. Why is His Flatulence responsible for an Iranian air defense unit panicking for no reason? He's done plenty wrong, why blame him for something where he bears no fault.

First. The mind is a terrible thing to waste. So a bit of background.

The answers are the disaster Boeing caused by not doing due diligence is a lot like the disaster the US did by not reigning in Trump from ordering political assassinations without obvious cause nor research on what effects might be which the next few days will prove.

Iran is a tiny country with a very small military - a military that got its ass whupped by Saddam who we took out in two weeks - which does it's work through proxies and without very effective technology. When we take out their top proxy operative they react. When they choose to use their technology, as pitiful as it may be, they are scared out of their robes about what The Great Satan will do.

Their personnel operating defense systems are usually fanatics who have demonstrated poor judgment in the past and they did it again when the mistook a commercial A/C for a US reaction.

It is obvious they don't even have communication between civil and military operations. It's not their fault, They are kids on the block trying to put up enough stuff to bluff Great Satan. They were reacting like a scared child about to be punished by the neighborhood bully.

All of this should have been anticipated by normal US Ops before any decision was made to assassinate That dumb clutz arriving in Iraq when we were obviously bent out of shape by Iran's recent actions - another indication how short sighted are Iranian operations - further suggests just how primitive is their military thinking. But No. president Code Orange Twittered a command that he had followed up without anyone stepping up to say: "But Sir, he's a rallying icon to them and the entire nation will unite behind the Fanatics if we kill him" Now 178 innocents are dead because we forced them to respond dramatically.

Now if you still want to hold them up as responsible for the taking down of the commercial jet you will have to get in the vanishingly short line of those who believe that is so.

Iran holds the majority of blame. But Trump and his insistence of using hyperbole and large threats provided the stage for this to occur. His addiction to "chaos" is exactly what we saw occur with that plane. You raise up the entropy, something bad accidentally coming to fruition becomes more possible.

Well said.

What we have at the core of this tragedy is a dynamic familiar to Americans. We see it all the time.

This is very much the same as when a policeman shoots an unarmed man and it turns out the man was not any kind of threat. The ingredients of this recipe are always the same. A poorly trained person is put in a stressful job by an organization which instills paranoia in it's membership, with a "it's them or us" mentality.

Wait. Are you talking about the missile shooter or Trump?

I'll take Missing the Point for $1000, Alex.

yabut... the point seems to be that one should not confront bullies for bullying because they may bully someone about it. So "missing it" seems the best option to me.

like, if we try to stop foreign governments from meddling in our elections, they may get mad and do something worse. so stop trying to stop that!!!

Do mistakes only occur when someone is "poorly trained" AND then stressed, or is there any other way for a mistake to happen? Can "well trained" people be exposed to stress and fail? Is a single unique event occurring evidence of an incomplete training program?

No, it is like making it clear what our intentions are militarily. Trump loves chaos and making crap up every moment. He loves entropy. And it was this entropy that helped create this moment. It wasn't merely assassinating Soleimani. It was the threat of 50+ targets (including cultural) if the Iranians responded, etc... talk afterwards.
