Trump the socialist?

I am curious what you folks here make of this. Curious what Trump voters think too. Trump apparently wants to nationalize 5G network. Apparently Bernie wasn't the socialist candidate. Trump was?

Infrastructure SHOUD be nationalized. As the article points out, this is not significantly different from the Interstate Highway system, which nobody has (as far as I am aware) ever seriously suggested should be privatized. It is infrastructure that is vital to national security and the wellbeing of the people.

What astonishes most outside observers about the USA is their tendency to have vital national infrastructure in private ownership - the telephone network being one good example of this. The transition to a new technology for telecommunications is a good opportunity to correct this longstanding error.

I agree with you. What surprises me is that it is Trump doing this.

You mean the one that consistently gets Ds? The one that drives inefficiency, has the wrong pricing structure, etc? No, this network should not be run by government.

Because of the minor problem of the gax tax not going up in decades, so funding isn't where it needs to be.
The one that drives inefficiency, has the wrong pricing structure, etc?
The gas tax is a great way to get people to pay for the roads they are driving on.
No, this network should not be run by government.
Trump's reasoning is "security". I'm not exactly certain how the Feds putting it together makes it more secure. I have no trouble with private ownership of the web, as long as it is fair access for all. If the Government wants security, they can put that into law and make requirements, unlike the current system where if someone steals your identity, you are still liable for the fraudulent accounts.

Security costs money and doesn't make any profits. We have seen this countless times, Equifax for example.

Corporate America needs profit making businesses to invest all of the money that they are receiving from the wage stagnation and the corporate tax cuts. It is an insidious circle. The corporations make much more profits than they can possibly re-invest in their businesses so they need investment opportunities outside of their business, public private partnerships, allow them to make profits by investing in endeavors that previously were done by government. Private, for profit prisons, private contractors fighting our many wars, private for profit schools living off of student loans guaranteed by the government, by buying hospitals that were previous run by charities and government teaming up with private for profit insurance companies to jack up medical costs while being subsidized by the government to provide healthcare to the poor, etc.

I am sure that someone will explain this to Trump and the administration will become much less concerned with the 5G security from Chinese hackers. The administration doesn't seem to be overly concerned with the attack on our election system by Russian hackers, do they?
