Actually what they have chosen is violent resistance to Western interference in the middle east.

The interference comes first.

You mean they have a time machine? Islam has been violent to the west long before the west was violent towards Islam.

There was a period they were so far behind they couldn't do much which caused a pause, but that's all.

The modern history of the Middle East begins after the Industrial Revolution with the discovery of oil.

From that point on you see massive interference from the West.

Pre-Industrial Age history is meaningless when you talk about the modern world.

To even mention it as having some relevance to today shows one to either be lost or to have ulterior motives.
