Eh, we got a thread for movies, a thread for TV shows, so why not a general one for video games? Some game discussions don't really need a whole separate thread of their own, you know?

Anyway, 11 year old Titan Quest just got an expansion.

The original developer of Titan Quest folded, and THQ Nordic got the rights to the game and released a special anniversary edition that included a few improvements, but mostly made the game compatible with newer operating systems. Now THQ Nordic has released an expansion for the game (anniversary edition required), and you should not be surprised that the expansion involves Vikings and the Norse gods.

My favourite game (I play PC) is the Borderlands suite. Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands, the pre-sequel, and Tales From the Borderlands. Borderlands 3 is rumoured to be coming, and apparently there is a Borderlands movie in development.
They are first-person shooters (well, not "Tales", it's more of an interactive movie) and all very funny, as well as satisfyingly violent. There's a co-op feature too, up to four characters, but I don't bother. Lots of loot too. (Loot! LOOT!! LOOOOTT!!!)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borderlands_(series)

But I've played them all many times now, and I'm looking for something similar, at least until Borderlands 3 comes out, so I'll be following this thread with interest.

I've also worked my way through the Half-Life suite, and am working on the Black Mesa version at the moment. A good game, interesting puzzles.

Maybe I'd better check out that Titan quest. I've got a thing for feisty ginger women with freckles, and I see it's on Steam.

"Fallout - New Vegas" sucks. It's sooo slooow! And keeps crashing. I have no desire to check out any of the others.
I liked "Halo" when it was still PC, but be goddammed if I'll get a consul just to play with all these other great choices.

My main addiction is Civilization, but Titan Quest hols nostalgia value in part because it helped me quit smoking.

Which iteration of Civ are you playing? I'm hooked on V and haven't tried VI yet, as I have heard very little positive about it.

I used to be a Civ fan, but feel it dropped off of a cliff after IV and haven't gone back to it.

I'm seriously into Injustice 2 right now. It's like Mortal Kombat but with superheroes, so you can play as Batman and Superman and stuff. A lot of fun and seriously addictive.

I'm one of those who likes 6. It's the version I play all the time now.

Actually, Beyond Earth is my favorite version of Civilization 5. I like the look and feel, the humor, and they made the trade network less annoying. As for Civilization 6, I really like the district system for what it does to city planning. No longer can you just use the same build order for every city; you have to figure out how best to take advantage of the landscape and keep in mind what's going on in nearby cities (some districts have bonuses that extend for a certain distance and so overlap is wasteful construction-wise).

A lot of people complain about the cartoonish art style, but I kind of like it myself.

Thanks, maybe I'll take a shot at it if I get more free time. I heard bad things about V and put that off, too, but ended up loving it.

I don't know why Beyond Earth didn't get more love from Civ 5 fans. The dynamics of alien behavior is quite unlike barbarians in any other civ game. There's nothing like the terror of having a siege worm enter your territory early in the game, and the victory conditions were different and interesting.

I've been doing CIV 6 too, and I enjoy it, except that it seems above Prince level, it cheats so blatantly to be a difficult opponent that it takes some of the fun out of it. I'm waiting for the last expansion, it hasn't ht steam yet I don't think.

I can't stop playing the rather simple Stardew Valley game. I have Mario Odyssey, but haven't started it yet. I've heard it is relatively simple to finish, but takes a while to complete.

Heh, Mario Odyssey is awesome. I have to admit, I put a lot of time into Splatoon 2 as well. Those are basically the two games I've been playing lately.

So, I actually collect retro games. I have quite a few Atari 2600 games, quite a lot of NES games, and an Analogue NT Mini to play them on. My most expensive game - likely Panzer Dragoon Saga for Sega Saturn. Bought it for roughly $250 a decade ago - it's likely worth $700 now.

BTW, Here's a look at the NT Mini from My Life in Gaming:

I downloaded this x-com mod abut a month ago and I'm loving it. I'm enjoying it more than War of the Chosen. As a stand alone game it is amazing:

X-COM. That's on the list of games that I bought, but haven't played yet. My list of unplayed games is getting as big as my list of unread books.

Just to clarify; it's a mod for the 1994 Xcom/Ufo - Enemy Unknown game. Not the 2011 Firaxis one.

My FiL has an absolutely ridiculous number of games/systems. I can imagine he likely has dozens of highly sought cartridges in his possession. I doubt he'd ever sell any of them.

I enjoy Civ 6 as well. As far as the basic gameplay goes, I think this version brought the most significant change over the life of the series with the addition of districts. That might explain why some people don't like it, but for me, it makes it a better game than Civ 5, which I played for well over 1,000 hours. Beyond Earth was just okay for me, it just didn't engage me as well as the normal Civ titles, and I had the same problem with Alpha Centauri back in the day. I guess removing the historical aspects of the game makes it less compelling for me, and once I get into a sci-fi setting I more prefer galaxy spanning 4x games where I can build spaceships and colonize multiple planets.

X-Com 2: War of the Chosen was pretty sweet at first. I like the new classes, and the way it allows you to continue to progress your characters through their skill trees after hitting their highest level. The first few times you encounter the Chosen, and before you defeat your first Chosen, the difficulty is ratcheted up enough to make those encounters pretty damn tough. The aforementioned changes to characters and the way they are developed, however, combine to make the end game entirely too easy.

The game I am currently obsessing on is Wasteland 2 Director's Cut. I picked it up in a Humble Bundle, and had never finished the base Wasteland 2 game. With the Wasteland 3 Kickstarter over and funded, I thought I would try to complete it again. I am making good headway this time around.

Damn, now that's hardcore.

I have been playing 7 Days to Die with some friends a lot lately. best zombie apocalypse survival, crafting, building game ever.

I also have been learning Unreal Engine over the past several months... ever since I got a Vive and wanted to start making my own experiences... and Epic Games provides the engine and an absolutely fantastic visual scripting development environment for FREE.

you have all seen code look like this:

Code:
    if(failure_category == true)
    {
        new_html += '<DIV style="font-size:80%;font-family:Segoe UI;color:#FF0000;font-weight:bold">'+heading+'</DIV>';
    }
    else
    {
        new_html += '<DIV style="font-size:90%;font-family:Segoe UI;color:#000000;">'+heading+'</DIV>';
    }

Coding in Unreal Engine looks like this:

So in other words, like Visual Basic? ;)

I was thinking much the same about Visual Basic - which to be fair, I haven't used in a long time. At this point, my programming is limited to Arduinos and Teensy boards.

As for selling older games - well, I regretted when I sold off games like Ogre Battle for SNES to free up some space, so I've become a bit of a hoarder. Luckily it's pretty easy to get a hold of games these days, and even load them up on NES/SNES/etc using an Everdrive or a SD2SNES, but I still kind of miss having the original carts.
