Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

It remains a riveting question: WHY did so many American voters choose fascism and a psychopath?

A riveting question? lol, not at all.

The interesting question is, why did the democrats lie that Brandon was not senile and then when that lie could not be sustained, why did the democrats foist a lame duck candidate that had no chance of winning on the electorate.

You do remember that Biden kicked Trump's ass in 2020, right? You do know about the advantages incumbent president's have, right. Although Biden still whooped incumbent Trump both in the EC and ~8,000,000 in the popular election, right?

You do remember that, don't you?

My pet theory on why the Republicans were able to recruit so many to vote for him is because those people don't read, but instead substitute things like Fox News and the thankfully now deceased Rush Limbaugh for actual reading. Easy sound bites, bright colors, and lots of pictures, with which to inflame their minimal intellectual capacities and a propensity for easy answers to complex problems. These types usually didn't used to vote but were inspired to do so by this nonsense.

I think of my siblings, one who is highly educated but doesn't read. My brother is not educated at all, but doesn't read. Both are intelligent people. When it comes to political philosophy they're both unsophisticated brutes. A single question e.g. "Okay, but what about the negative results this could have on X?" leaves them dumbfounded. The typical response is a personal attack on either me or some politician: "But Biden's a liberal retard!" Seriously, that's the level of discourse they're capable of on these issues.

Dumb it down to a soundbite, simplify the issue to a 4th grade level, scare them, and that's it.

Sadly, we've begun to see the same in young people on the left, with Reddit being the primary culprit. An issue is either black and white, or you're a fascist oppressor who hates all minorities, loves "the rich," and you're only worthy of ridicule and personal attacks. There are no shades of grey, no nuance, zero sophistication.

This comes from not making the effort to read anything they don't see on the internet.

But these people vote GOP regardless. It is the suburban white folk that are the people that switch back and forth. There were some minority shifts as well. They did so this time for a couple reasons.
1) Inflation
2) How people felt about the economy

You are right, those people don't read. They experienced the inflation and were disappointed. That didn't stop people from spending though, which is kind of the odd thing about all of this. So much anguish over inflation, but spending on luxuries went up. Harris couldn't tout the economic growth, increase in wages, stock market, because people felt the sting of inflation... and even worse, they thought the higher prices were going to go away and be replaced by lower prices. But due to the increase in wages, that wasn't going to happen.

40 years of Limbaugh on the brain.

Young people on the left have been ignorant fucks for decades. That isn't new. Lack of pragmatism? Are you not aware of the 1960s?

This won't be popular but people are stupid, in general. They don't have college degrees. They don't like math. And they especially hate feeling like they are being talked down to simply because they don't understand what they are talking about. And these are the people that you have the best chance at convincing.

You've got the other folks that have Fox News on all day and get their news from the Angry White Guy News Aggregator.

You miss the whole point.

Over-simplifying but still making the point clear, there were three types of American voter
  • (A) 65 million who were always going to vote for Trump,
  • (B) 65 million who were always going to vote for the Democrat,
  • (C) 75 million who had trouble deciding whom to vote for, or whether to vote at all.
I agree with you that it IS a shame that so many Americans fall into group C; and agree that there is much to find fault with the Democrats for: the very poor messaging and the embarrassing confusion about Biden's mental competence, the blunders that led group C to vote (or not vote) in such a way that led to the grave tragedy now in progress.

BUT the "riveting" question that should make all good-spirited rational-thinking Americans wonder is NOT about the 75 million ignoramuses who had trouble even grasping what the election was about. Increasingly we cannot escape the conclusion that Americans are just a stupid people. These are the people who voted for JFK simply because he was handsome and charming, who voted for GWB because he's be more fun to go out drinking with than Al Gore.

No; The riveting question is about Group A, the 65 million who deliberately voted for a psychopathic grifter, who deliberately steered this once-great nation toward fascism. How could so many be duped by such a heinous conman? Or did they admire him BECAUSE he was criminal, BECAUSE he was a malignant narcissist?

Now that you understand the question, do you want to try again?

Yeah, stuff like the above is a great example of what I was mentioning. People so embedded in a partisan bubble, that they appear completely out of touch with the world.

What did Trump win? People that thought the economy was bad. No one voted for Trump because Biden was "senile" that weren't always going to vote for Trump.

lol, the answer will always be the same fella.

Brandon was yanked because his senility was a problem for voters.

Harris lost by a much closer margin than when Trump got beat by Biden. She lost by about 1 percent. That’s a close election!

He was yanked because he acted old during a debate and was clearly having problems having the energy to campaign fully. Democrats that voted for Biden by over 70% thought he was too old to run in March 2024. All of that is a red herring though, as the people who believed Biden was "senile" were far right media swilling folks who'd never have voted for Biden. The people voting for Trump because of inflation likely had no idea you folk were obsessed about Biden being "senile".

People worried about senility in their potential leader would not vote for Trump.

Yes, Harris lost. And look who she lost to.

There is no way Brandon was mentally or physically capable of another term and he was yanked because the polling said he couldn't win.

The 51GZrh-HnQL._AC_.jpg hasn't just taken the US out of the World Health Organization (WHO), but had forbidden staff at the CDC from even talking to WHO staff.

According to an email sent from CDC’s deputy director for global health to staff Monday morning, “effective immediately all CDC staff engaging with WHO through technical working groups, coordinating centers, advisory boards, cooperative agreements or other means — in person or virtual — must cease their activity and await further guidance.”

The memo continued: “Please ensure your impacted staff receive this message. CDC detailees to WHO have been instructed to pause engaging in any work on behalf of WHO as part of their respective details, and to no longer go to WHO offices until further notice.”

“This goes beyond what they tried to do in 2020,” said one federal health official who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation. “Last time, they didn’t forbid us to engage or even talk. That’s what’s unusual in this circumstance now.”

I'd guess that this is because WHO recommended rearing masks.

Old news. I heard about that two days ago. I can't keep up with the shit this cruel, psychopathic, narricissitic, demented man is doing. He belongs in a psych ward or a memory care unit, not in the White House.

The incumbent advantage was a big part of the reason Dem insiders wanted to stick with Biden even as his decline became more and more obvious. It backfired, since he had to give up anyway, but only after a disastrous debate performance and without time to do a primary.

A doctor will, and should, change his message when new information invalidates previous knowledge. That;'s science.
But no new information about masks was suddenly discovered.
I think it was more the case that there was a shortage of masks, and they did not want people to panic. It was greater availability of masks that led to change in recommendations, not that Fauci et al suddenly discovered they were effective after all.
In any case, the messaging around this issue was poor and did not inspire confidence.

We do not handle cash at all on our buses. The only ways to pay are with a Go Card from TransLink, an Odin Pass (which is a phone app) or by buying a paper ticket at a bus station.
I have not used Marta (our transit system) since the Pandemic and even then I used trains rather than buses, but I remember our system was similar. You could buy the Breeze card or ticket at a Marta station using credit/debit cards or cash, and if you paid say with a $20 bill, you got a bunch of dollar coins as change.
