What country music do you like?

Along with Alison Krause, who is well represented in this thread, I like the Dixie Chicks. Here's more of them:

Although they run to the folky end, I still think that Dave Carter and Tracey Grammer should be included:

Just started checking out Ted Gioia's best of 2018 list and stumbled on Phillipe Bronchtein's new record. Gorgeous album.

New to the thread and haven’t browsed through the whole thing, so here’s a couple and stop me if you’ve heard these before.

I’ve always like Jimmy Dale Gilmore of Flatlanders fame. Here is his Dallas:

Then there’s Patty Griffin, who transcends genres with When It Don’t Come Easy:

This song has been stuck in my head lately. Family groups have a weird dynamic, and these folks were Jehovah's Witnesses which made it extra weird.

Good song, though.

I find most mainstream country music today to be nothing but pop with a twang. It's dreck.

This is exactly my feelings as well.

I tend to like the Outlaw country of the 70s (Willy, Waylon, Merle and the likes of Kenny Rogers) and also some of the country of the 90s (Reba, Garth, Clint Black, Dwight Yoakam, Alan Jackson etc.). There's so much country that I utterly despise, songs like Watermelon Crawl or Refried Dreams especially.

Kenny Rogers? You may have missed it, but "Lady" was written by Lionel Richie. Not exactly outlaw country.

Don't get me wrong, I like Kenny just fine (and he's a very nice person IRL) but he's about as mainstream/pop country as you can get.
