What music are you listening to right now? (Warning: Lotsa videos)

That brought to mind John Mackey's Kingfishers Catch Fire. Here's the second movement, performed by the TMEA Texas 5A All State Symphonic Band of 2007-2008...Mackey's one of my favorite modern composers...

If nothing else, go to about 4:50 and hear the crescendo at the end...pay special attention to the Horn section at about 5:09!

Really liked that, thanks. The crescendo brought to mind the finale of Sibelius' 5th (skip to 30:40 if you want):

Historians aren't completely clear about what it signifies, but some suggest they represent the final blasts of the Civil War.

Hang the DJ indeed.

Very talented artist who wrote most of his own music. He's in my part of the world now doing a series of concerts.

The general consensus so far seems to be that Lady Gaga absolutely killed it on the Oscars. I'm of the opinion that she skimped a bit on "Edelweiss," but other than that her performance was amaze-balls.

An artist I recently "rediscovered" - Joan Osborne. Known best for the 1990s hit "(What if God was) One of us". But she has a great voice, versatile style, and a lot of other very nice songs...

The backing music / musicians on her album Love and Hate are fantastic...
