What music are you listening to right now? (Warning: Lotsa videos)

This is a slow burn and takes just over a minute to really get going.

Still putting out good stuff

Just got finished watching the latest "What Makes This Song Great?" from Rick Beato. He hasn't done one of these breakdowns in a long time, and this one is a doozy:

Good stuff. John Paul Jones is a highly accomplished musician in his own right and doesn't get the recognition he deserves for his contributions to the band, IMHO. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant left him out for some recent reunions, which I thought was not cool.

This might be a dumb question, but how do you get access to the individual instrument tracks for a song, particularly an older one like StH? Are the original tracks available for purchase from the record companies, or are they separated out directly from the song through software somehow?

Splitting off the reverb and sending just it to the other speaker would have been good to know fifty years ago. I didn't know what it was but I didn't like it. It just sounded like a balance mismatch to me.

I think there are software solutions that can isolate tracks to a degree, but Rick is a record producer with lots of connections. If you know the right people and ask nicely, you can get a copy of the tracks. When I was a radio producer, we were doing a parody song and asked the artist's people if it was okay. They sent over the produced song with the lead vocal removed so we wouldn't have to use a cheap karaoke version.

I love the RB videos. I wonder where he gets these recordings broken down by track layers or does he have some sort of software that does this?

If you look closely in this video, you can see the tracks are labeled "Led Zeppelin Official." So someone within their camp probably sent him the tracks that he used. Though it seems like they might be mixes of some of the instruments (guitars are all in one track, for example.)
