At the end of the Tom Hanks movie Castaway, he meets a woman at a crossroads. She's the owner of the ranch where he finally delivered the battered package from his long ordeal. The implication is that maybe she's the one he's been looking for to move on from his wife. The woman in the pickup truck is attractive. You get the idea that he could follow her down the dusty road to a new life. Maybe he did. Maybe he didn't. The movie leaves it as an open question.
I met her. She was a country singer in the late 90s who had a couple of hit songs. A very sweet and talented person who unfortunately passed away from cancer a few years back.

God damnit Ford. That's not the happy ending I created in my mind for that movie.
This is why some of us listen to nihilistic metal, because the real world sucks. Kids get cancer and die from starvation every day, and it doesn't seem like there is a helpful god watching over us.

Etta James, from just about any stage of her career. Faves: Watch Dog, Deep in the Night (play this on a rainy night in the car...), I'd Rather Go Blind, My Mother in Law, Laying Beside You, any cover of an Otis Redding tune (she knew how to pick 'em and how to respect 'em.)
