What music are you listening to right now? (Warning: Lotsa videos)

The Specials were -- at their peak -- brilliant. I think my favorite is Too Much Too Soon, with Gangsters as a runner-up. Terry Hall cracks me up with his wiseguy accent -- don't know what part of London or UK it typifies, but he's perfect for the band.

I was pretty sure Terry was a Brummie (Birmingham, England) but now that I checked he was actually from Coventry which is pretty close. I enjoyed some of his Fun Boy Three stuff too. there were some good Ska/2Tone bands around that time, The Selector, UB40, Madness.

Two cd's that may be perfectly legal, but who knows (they can be found on both American and UK Amazon).
Ry Cooder: The Complete Bottom Line Broadcast 1974
Randy Newman: Live at the Boarding House ('72)
Both capture these unique artists at the stage where they had released their first influential albums and hit their stride as a blues interpreter (Ry) and a singer songwriter of razor-edged wit (Randy). Wonderful full-length concerts for car trips. Lots of comments to the audience.

Transformer by Lou Reed.
Picked up the recent Speaker's Corner reissue and comparing to the original release. While the Speaker's Corner vinyl is less noisy, the 1971 US first pressing has slightly better dynamics. Or maybe I am just used to the original since I've been listening to it for 35 years. Highly recommend this album if you don't have it. If you have the right gear, the base on this record will shake your house.
