It’s practically a cliche at this point that those who publicly (and harshly) oppose marriage equality, or even queerness at a fundamental level, likely have some major skeletons buried deep within their psychic closets.
Give it a few weeks and we can almost guarantee another antigay [insert powerful title here] will be revealed to have a Grindr account or be caught hiring male prostitutes.
And the numbers certainly bolster the argument.
According to a recent PornHub survey, in states like Mississippi and North Carolina — both of which recently enacted antigay legislature — rates of porn consumption are curiously high, especially same-sex content. Of the top five gay porn-consuming states in the country, three are in the South, an area not particularly known for its sweeping LGBTQ inclusiveness.

I believe these people are just doing "research" on the lifestyle of sinners.

I'm skeptical that correlation = causation here.

Texas is has both a lot of strip clubs and bible thumpers, but according to my research, the people in the strip clubs are not generally the bible thumper types.

A more likely explanation for this result is that porn consumption is by and large anonymous. Therefore, those who are gay in these states will be more likely to turn to porn for sexual satisfaction rather than enter into homosexual relationships or go to gay bars/clubs due to the stigma of such relationships and/or being outed as gay. Porn is the safer outlet to pursue.

Yes, because we all know masturbation is better than the real thing.

Would it bold to ask how your research was done? Personally or by proxy?

better safer
But, like, seriously. How often do people really stick to the safer path where sex is concerned?

Sex with condoms is safer than without, and Porn is even safer than sex with a condom, but count the number of STD's and unwanted pregnancies we see.

Some paths are safer than others - it was always safer for paedophiles, for instance, to become RC priests or scoutmasters, for instance, and Homosexuals over here in the period of repression found it safest to be Conservative MPs and take a strong line against offenders. I don't suppose the homosexual population of the South is very much greater than that of anywhere else, despite appearances.

I dunno. I don't really see porn as a substitute for actual sex. And at least in Texas there is a large and open gay population. They have parades and everything. Houston has an openly gay mayor.

Some state has to be first. Why not Mississippi? Is the rate significantly higher than other states? I would seriously consider methodological issues in the data or other more mundane explanations before attributing it to anything religious or social.

Not enough detail in exactly what was surveyed and how to comment further.
