Why we should bring back vocational training

I put the words "decline in vocational education classes united states" in my google and got nearly 2 million hits, but maybe that's just me.

The only things I remember and still use from high school are from typing and auto shop class. That's a waste of 4 years really. Imagine had they had more courses like these. I could be a jack of all trades.

I've been telling young people that ever since my job was replaced by a computer. The hospital I worked for replaced their old AS400s they'd been using since the late eighties to a much more up-to-date enterprise system that could do almost everything I did for 40 hours a week with a few keystrokes.

My BiL is an electrician and has no lack of job opportunities and gets paid very well, even without ever bothering to get his Journeyman certification.

Electrician, plumber, auto mechanic. These are vocations that will not be replaced by computers and robots anytime soon.
