My son did not score high enough to get his International Baccalaureate Diploma. He was 1 point off in computers, 2 points off in math and 4 points off in both French and History. He only needed 3 more points from all of that, any combo, just 3 points.

His IB scores are based on 4 things for each subject. One external (the test) and 3 internal (papers).

All right, now hear this. "Mom, the reason I got a bad score in history is becuase I didn't study well enough for the test, so when I encountered a really specific question - well three questions, but they were really specific not general knowledge* - that I didn't know anything about, I just wrote a short story about cowboy wizards on the page for all three questions. There was nothing else I could do!"

Are you fucking kidding me?

* "Really specific" includes, "whT was Canada's reaction to the vietnam war," and "I don't know, something about the cold war, I think."

Another way to look at this, maybe your son has learned that BS will not cut it.

Na, it's a rookie mistake. There are ways to answer questions honestly and effectively when you don't know the specific answer, *especially* when they're essay questions.

He can be forgiven, though, given he just graduated from high school.

I told him, if you're goin to go to the trouble of making up a story, make it a story ABOUT CANADA DURING VIETNAM! Not freakin Wizard Cowboys!![\i]

And also, if you pull this shit in art school, we don't pay and you come home and go to community college.

Wizard Cowboys.

A dubious proposition. Consider Donald Trump: BS took him all the way to the White House...

Maybe the kid's been playing too much Mystic Warlords of Ka'a - Wild West and Witches expansion pack.

I just asked him if he played that. :D
"What? Mom! That's not even a real game! That's a parody of a mishmash of Magic the card game, yugioh and settlers of catan that they play on Big Bang Theory. Why would you even ask that?"

Kid knows his pop culture.

You need to become a glass one tenth full kind of person. His response was imaginative and artistic!

I'll decide that after I find out whether this cost him his scholarship!
