If you hit the little microphone button on your Android keyboard on your Samsung phone, the "tap to speak" box on the bottom of the screen becomes a permanent fixture and simply will not go away. Apparently, the problem happened when Google did a recent update to the Google app.

Needless to say, this has people hopping mad, so I expect it will be updated quickly by Google. My father uses voice-to-text typing extensively because he has trouble with the tiny little keyboard, so this bug hit him hard. Like most people, he could only make the box go away by rebooting his phone. It was while helping him with his problem that I stumbled on a workaround just in case this bug hits anyone else here.

Simply hold down the Home key to get the app switcher screen. You will notice that all the listed apps have an X in the upper right corner. This closes the apps. Just keep closing all the Google apps until the "tap to speak" box goes away.

So that's why that happened yesterday. It only happened once, and yes I rebooted to make it go away. It didn't occur to me to try "close all" to cancel the "tap to speak" but will remember that if it happens again. Thank you.

For anyone with the Samsung Galaxy S6, the "close all" function is its own touch field to the left of the "home" button.
