Ground black pepper in a chocolate cake? It's in the cake or the frosting? The coffee is so overbearing, the pepper, in my mind would only provide a very subtle dirtying of the flavor.

Bangkok, Thailand has a 'quirky' restaurant (google's description) called Cabbages and Condoms. It has a google rating of 4 out of 5 stars, with a number of user reviews. It gets better -- the address is 610 Suk Chai Alley. So, a memory device if you'll be in Bangkok any time soon:

Medieval foods mixed sweet fruit and meat (yuck)

Fruit and meat are a great combo and common in many cuisines, from Turkish Tagine (lamb, apricots, nuts and spices cooked in clay pot) to al pastor tacos which is pork and pineapple, or any taco with mango salsa, German dishes that have pork and apple, procuitto wrapped dates, sicilian meatballs with raisins and currants, and some Asian dishes.
