X-Men: Apocalypse trailer

Isn't omega level the usual title for most powerful mutants?

Yes.

The ranking in order is: gamma, beta, alpha, omega.

What the ranks specifically mean is a bit fuzzy because writers don't always bother consulting with each other.

Yeah, like, I'm a huge nerd and I honestly have never read about a numbering system for mutants. I don't collect anymore, but my local Barnes and Noble keeps me pretty up to date with the latest TPBs

For perspective, Magneto is sometimes listed as alpha, sometimes omega, so he's on the border and he claims to be able to tear the Earth in two if he so desired. Gamma and beta are almost never mentioned so far as I know.

Also, it's possible that different groups in the Marvel universe are using different definitions for the different categories.

It's all confusing. All I know is omega = run and hide (preferably on another planet).

He'd currently be Alpha since he got de-powered.

Dude used to be able to do some crazy shit, like reversing the polarity of the planets magnetosphere (oh heyyy) and drawn someones body of iron like a suped up version of that X-2 scene.

Iceman is supposedly another Omega level, but he never does anything with it :-/

How the hell is Iceman omega level? That sounds more like a subplot gone wrong which should be forgotten as opposed to an actual description of his power levels.

I haven't read in a long time, but Iceman is an omega potential, but has not yet reached that potential. Emma Frost mocks him for being so clueless about how to fully utilize his own powers.

something-something, he's always been afraid of his powers and so never really explored or developed them, something-something he's actually a living water entity that is functionally immortal and unkillable, and he has a lot more control over water atoms than he's ever really exerted.

Yep. That's about what I thought.

He's also potentially able to control all the water on the planet kind of thing?

I think there may have been some time travel where they saw a version of him in the future who decided to become hundreds of feet tall and basically a walking Glacier.

Basically, some people on Marvel editorial want every one of the original 5 x-men to be god like.

It doesn't of course. It does make me wonder if that will stick or not. The comic creators change so will the level of power and sexuality stay or change? Or just not mean anything at all. The latter is my bet.

I think in the case of Iceman, they're doing it to point out that he is held back by his own insecurities and other personality flaws. Let's face it, if Bobby weren't a member of a persecuted race, he would be an accountant, not a superhero/political activist.
