Your favourite science-fiction author and book?

Another odd one I really liked was The Integral Trees by Larry Niven.

Honestly, I don't even remember the characters nor the plot, but the interesting part is the amount of work Niven put into imagining an entire ecosystem in freefall (no gravity). I have no idea how scientifically accurate any of it is, but the sheer amount of imagination in the setting took my breath away.

I read his Ring World series year ago, and enjoyed it.

A member of an insular tribe isolated on a single tree gets knocked off the tree and goes on an odyssey to see the other ways people (and all terran life forms) have adapted to living in a gas ring with no gravity. Flying turkeys, bubble lakes, air sharks... although some of that might be from the sequel, the Smoke Ring.
