Twitter likely to take idiots offer to buy them for $43 billion

Elon Musk, bi-polar extraordinaire that managed to make a killing with Paypal investment and turn that around somehow and create an electric car company from scratch, something that is nothing short of impossible... now wants to spread freedom to the world by purchasing Twitter and opening it to liability regarding incitement of riots over its platform.

Twitter looks ready to accept the deal, because really... getting $43 billion for fucking Twitter?! $1 billion in earnings a year Twitter?

Musk has some William Wallace characteristics. Managed a couple huge things, but then ends up kind of failing. This $43 billion buyout to make Twitter 'free' from 'censorship' seems like one of the worst possible investments ever.
Why so upset that somebody is using his wealth to buy a company? Evidently you really dislike him and think it's a bad investment so shouldn't you be happier?
Why are liberals not allowed to have opinions.

Musk bought a massive social media company (rarely ever a good investment), for a premium (even worse) to deal with alleged censorship (which really doesn't exist).

1) A single person shouldn't have this much wealth, where they can buy a company for over $40 billion... on a whim.
2) The people supporting this maneuver are giddy that Trump will be unleashed again, a guy that violated the companies terms and conditions by egging on an insurrection that got people killed.
3) It is a bad investment. Flat out, but alt-right boners be swelling... when they are already allowed to post on Twitter.

And the Babylon Bee is trash! Seriously, what is with the right-wing and their inability to understand humor?
I expect it is the common conflation, more common on the right a fair shade, between "understanding words" and "understanding word-concepts" as I have seen posted here.

One is an understanding on the lines of "when I say something this way, I'm more 'allowed' to say it, and saying it in the first place means I am more 'allowed' to do some other thing I seek to do or say that I am not normally 'allowed' to do or say without consequence."

The other is understanding "when I say this, I am referencing this concept that relates in this way to the other concepts: I am speaking some specific piece of information that can be disassembled, examined, and used by others such that when they are done, they will have the same idea I did, see it as I did, and be able evaluate it as they may."

It deeply mirrors the differences between The Chinese Room and The Turing Test.

he was able to finance and develop a car company from scratch... which is virtually impossible to do, because of the cash burn required.
So in other words, "...which is only easy to do if you start out rich".

It's impossible for me to buy a super-yacht. But that doesn't mean that buying a super-yacht is an impressive feat that few people have the skills to bring off. Give me a few billion dollars, and it would be easy.

Isn't twitter still under contract with Amazon for their cloud servers for another 3 years? Sounds like maybe Elon has more than just the platform of free speech in mind. He may be planning to use Twitter (which also has its own servers) to put a foot in the cloud service market. I mean, it would align more with the Elon brand than 280 characters of free speech.

The most popular vehicle sold in the US, came out all-electric yesterday.
I'm not sure that would have happened, absent Musk and Tesla. But I do want to drive it, just to see if it has better power and handling than my f250 V10. It should have both, and by a wide margin.
Not a slam on @Ford (our poster) but autonomy is not a priority for most people. What IS a priority, and what mfrs aren't hyping, is the incredible acceleration and handling offered by electric vehicles.

Acceleration? Meet the 5007 HP Devel (not a typo - five thousand+ horsepower)

I mean, it sure is nice to have a continuous power profile.

And if push comes to shove and I need voltage, I can hook up a generator, pour in fuel, charge my vehicle on that, and get better gas mileage.

Put the generator in the tool case.

The tales of Betamax's superiority are vastly exaggerated. Sony lost because it tried to create a licensing monopoly and its tapes were too short for consumers.

Yup, that totally sounds like Sony. They seem to still be doing the same rubbish in the gaming industry which is rapidly changing to people wanting to play anywhere at any time on anything. They are late to cloud gaming, and they are still using exclusive licensing as the backbone of the Playstation platform. Playstation will be the next Betamax if they don't realize that their list of exclusives is too short to retain consumers.

Edit: But in relation to Elon, I'm sure he's hitting up Twitter for the cloud service, freedom of speech is just him trolling.
Edit: I mean duh, how else does he push firmware to his cars and how else could he secure cloud servers to assist with his efforts to build self-driving cars.

To be fair, I'm not sure what direction I can see Musk taking "free speech". I'm unsure if he knows just how shrill a dog whistle that is these days.

He may attract the wrong kind of crowd.

He may have only done it to censor the location of his jet.

He may have done it for a lot of reasons.

He may have even done it because Twitter is a toxic shitspout of the internet that needs to be taken out back and shot.

Depending on what happens decides whether this is a good or bad thing.

I admit I dislike one person having enough power to make a choice over which happens completely free of oversight or external input.

Watching TYT. They are running down all the times Musk was against free speech. Asking the Chinese government to censor online criticism of his cars, suing one of his line workers for over a hundred million dollars for complaining about the job. Suing Twitter critics of Musk, even calling one twitter user's boss and threatening to sue his boss.

Yup, he's a freedon of speech advocate.

Don't care much about his journey, just glad that he arrived.

Hence why I present a few possible outcomes. As I said, the power here to be good is also the power to be shitty. It could in fact be a strategy for killing the whole platform, perhaps a strategy for manipulating people into a Cult of Musk, perhaps he is ready to join the dark side and take a swing at being the next Trump.

On TYT, they actually compared Musk to Trump. His penchant fpr suing, like Trump. His history of lying, like Trump.

Massive cope.

Need a moment of silence.

TYT are a bunch of left wing loons, so that does not surprise me at all. The Left in general, including those in power like Bernie, Fauxachontas and AOC also hate Musk with a passion that I do not quite see the reason for. You'd think they'd be more favorable to a man who made electric cars cool. It's also not just that he is a billionaire. Tom Steyer is a billionaire too, but the lefties seem to like him just fine.

Musk is African-American. Explains a lot of the far-lefty hate. (Not all lefties hate him and free speech should not be a right/left issue.)

It probably would not have happened, certainly not this quickly, absent a company like Tesla that showed that electric cars can be viable outside the "glorified golf cart" segment like the EV1.
But I do want to drive it, just to see if it has better power and handling than my f250 V10. It should have both, and by a wide margin.
I would not have thought somebody like you would be caught dead in, much less drive, such a gas guzzler.
Now I want to go back and see what you wrote on the subject of oil drilling and pipelines over the years.

What IS a priority, and what mfrs aren't hyping, is the incredible acceleration and handling offered by electric vehicles.
Especially when you turn on the ludicrous mode. :) But even without it, electric motors have loads of torque, especially on the low end.
The mechanics of electric cars are also much more simple, with much fewer moving parts. Engine especially. A Tesla electric motor is a far simpler beast than a comparable modern ICE.

EVs are also much more efficient than vehicles with Otto (or Diesel) cycle heat engines.

So I agree: driving assist features and (eventually) a fully autonomous mode are just an icing on the cake.
