Is there a communist element to the police brutality protests?

I heard it on the local radio in Seattle. Granted, the radio station 97.3 KIRO FM here is very much an echo chamber that takes very few listener calls. Also it seems like the hosts with a couple exceptions are right wing and corporatist for their own job security.

And actually, I am not against a leveling of the field economically. Or at least letting it happen more organically. But ironically, it seems to be government power to bail out wall street gamblers and low wage payers like Walmart through welfare going its workers that helps to feed inequality.


I remember going to a Occupy Wall Street protest at Westlake and I saw a very large contingent of Social Workers Party etc.. type people there.
 
Communist is code word for anybody who questions the power structure within this country.

The word excites stupid apes and easily gets them foaming at the mouth.

And it is an economic term because this country is run by the business sector which is the functional arm of the oligarchy.
 
You have a point that is valid for many of the cases that the word is thrown around. However in this case and what I saw at OWS Seattle there really are "Communists" there.

What kind of Communists?

There is not one kind, just as there are many kinds of capitalists.
 
I am not sure what exact kind of communists they are at recent protest. The link has some info and the website on the flyer that was handed out.

I would say that this is a bait and switch to a degree. I think that people interested in joining the protest will be turned off by that ideology - whether from knowledge or impression of communism.

But these people feel that any way to solve this problem other than their method is a bandaid.

In a framework that says that says be a good corporate drone and work hard -- what is the solution to apparent police impunity for murdering/manslaughtering black men?

In that mindset I don't really object even to being a pain in the ass to shoppers for a short time even in a different city to where the incidents happened. If a general strike would lead to every negligent policeman finally being prosecuted or permanently barred from police work that would be a good thing.

But they want a much larger change to society that most people don't want at all.

Thinking anti-police protests are somehow linked to communism is a little weird, since every communist state that ever existed was a police state.
 
They have a bigger agenda than just changing the grand jury system.

This is as much about economics as it is about race though.

We have all these superfluous people who the "system" doesn't need.

Do we do what a wise nation would do and find a way to make good use of these people?

Or do we follow the American model? Impoverish and then imprison them so some can profit from their imprisonment.

What you mean is every dictatorship that called itself Communist was a dictatorship.

Even people who completely disagree with socialism should welcome their presence. The political spectrum in the USA is pitifully constricted. We have a centrist pro-business party (the Democrats) and a far right pro-business party (the GOP). If activists from the Socialist Workers Party can expand the mental horizons of Americans by a few degrees, they should be applauded.
 
Is the Socialist Worker's Party advocating a police state?
I don't quite understand Repoman's objection to them.

They never openly advocate a police state. But of course the only method to implement their policies and maintain them is using a brutal police state.

Where on earth did you get the notion that the SWP is advocating emulation of Sweden or Denmark? Their agenda, their model, their OCD focus are Cuba, Cuba, Cuba.
