Trump 2024?

Alex Jones says Trump will announce his candidacy this coming Monday.

A spirit calling itself Stephen Cleveland visited my mancave around 1:30 am this morning. After helping himself to a beer and cigar he bellowed VIA burp that "I'll be the only fat cat to ever serve non-consecutively". So I guess Trump is out.

Trump barely squeezed through by stealing the electoral college because folks didn't like Hillary. He then burned fence sitters with all the tweeting and that insurrection joint. I think the "anyone but Hillary" people are tired of all the noise he makes and just want things done. The old clergy-type Republican voters are enjoying their Yacht with SCOTUS etched on its sternboard & likely don't have a use for him anymore. His only solid supporters are the ones that consider Tucker Carlson a liberal shill. I just can't see a Trump win in 2024. What I'm interested in is whether or not Texas will flip blue (Biden lost by 6%). :devil:2024 is a long enough time (and pardon me as this is very insensitive) for enough stories about unviable pregnancies leading to life endangerment or severely compromised physical health that affect all women. Whether Republican, Democrat or undecided voters. With Texas having one of the highest (if not at the top) numbers of rape cases you'd think they'd have an exception for those. I (regrettably) expect a lot of those types of abortion stories to start pouring out of Texas between now and November 2024.

Somebody here (not me!) Keeps tuning into Faux Cabal on the 'puter in the kitchen. (Its a hate watch.) So I get the occasional dose of F***head Carlson et al. Lots of whining about how Whites are becoming a minority in America. Go away black people, brown people and Asians. Your existence makes FC so angry and sad! So you have no right to be here in FC's white America.

Rob Elementary doesn't help republicans in Texas either. I bet even Republicans are disappointed in the leadership going all the way up to the governor over that failure.

Trump barely squeezed through by stealing the electoral college because folks didn't like Hillary.
How did he steal the electoral college? Or do you mean it in the sense akin to "stealing a base" rather than theft?
Because convincing more people to vote for you then voted for your opponent in key states is not theft, even if reason why voters in those key states did not vote for her is because they found her unlikable. Note that they liked her well enough in states like California, but running up the score there is worth bupkis.

I just can't see a Trump win in 2024.
Neither can I. Of course, Dems can always fuck it up by nominating somebody like AOC. But even with her it will be tough for Trump.
The sheen is gone for most of the electorate. And Trump himself will hardly be physically fit enough for a grueling presidential campaign two years from now. Put him on stage against somebody like DeSantis and the difference will be obvious. I think this is the guy you need to be afraid of.

What I'm interested in is whether or not Texas will flip blue (Biden lost by 6%). :devil:2024 is a long enough time (and pardon me as this is very insensitive) for enough stories about unviable pregnancies leading to life endangerment or severely compromised physical health that affect all women.
RvW being overturned may save Dems in 2022 and even 2024. But, at least in Texas, being seen as anti-gun is a kiss of death. Which is why β is still trailing Abbott.

Whether Republican, Democrat or undecided voters. With Texas having one of the highest (if not at the top) numbers of rape cases you'd think they'd have an exception for those.
Texas is also one of the top (in fact, #2) states by population. Which is why raw numbers are meaningless. When you look at the rates instead, Texas is not close to the top.

Yeah, Biden promised an infrastructure bill, wildly popular. Got it through a 50-50 senate.
Yes, that was a big accomplishment. He nearly fucked it up though by trying to tie to the millstone that is the rebranded Bernie spending plan (aka B3), but he deep sixed that harebrained idea quick.
Biden says he won’t sign bipartisan bill without reconciliation bill

Biden promised out of Afghanistan and it went nearly perfectly, by tail between the legs standards, with the one bombing... and managing to get a lot of Afghans out as well.
Afghanistan pullout was a clusterfuck. And entirely avoidable.
Bringing hundreds of thousands of Afghans here, when 98% of them support Sharia law, was also an idiotic idea.

Economy is growing.
So is inflation. Some of that was inevitable due to COVID. But the pandemic largess continued on way too long. Expanded unemployment was continued a year after the economy was almost entirely reopened. Expanded child tax credit lasted even longer. Student loan interest and payment holiday is still going on, even though college graduates are on average better off than the average American.
Imagine how much worse inflation would have been had the fauxgressives been victorious in ramming B3 through Congress?

Wait, are you saying that 98% of Afghans support Sharia law, or that 98% of the Afghans who were brought to America support Sharia law?

Because I would guess that a) you cannot demonstrate the latter, and that b) even assuming that the figure is correct for the former, it’s reasonable to assume that those “hundreds of thousands” who chose to flee to the USS would be overwhelmingly likely to come from the other 2% (ca. 800,000 people) of the population.

That is, even if you were right that 98% of Afghans support Sharia law, and right to assume that such support makes them unsuitable to live in a country with people who do not support Sharia law (both of which are doubtful), there would still be a case for rescuing the 800,000+ non-Sharia supporters currently in Afghanistan, who shouldn’t be forced to live in a country where Sharia is imposed upon them, and it would therefore be laudable to bring hundreds of thousands of Afghans to the US even if your premises are 100% correct.

That is, your conclusion would be false even if the beliefs you cite as justification for that conclusion were accurate.

How did he steal the electoral college?
I meant it as a pun. Ya know, with Trump saying the election was stolen. ;)

People aren't going to be looking at rates when instance after instance of women's lives being either uprooted or lost due to uncertainties surrounding abortion laws go viral. Republicans have abortions too.

I agree with most of the other things you said.

Derec: I'm kind of surprised that you didn't like the Afghan pullout. I thought that you always favored the US pulling out of Afghanistan. Certainly trump wanted to. Couldn't figure out how to do it. Yea, the Biden government probably carried on the Republican CARES act for a session too long after COVID contributing to inflation. Scary times. I don't expect government to make perfect decisions all the time.

Funny! You're right. It always pissed off trump that HRC got more votes than he did. He always disputed it. Claimed that the popular vote was rigged. Any election that trump loses he claims was stolen from him.

conservatives turned to racism and xenophobia to appeal to white voters who had traditionally voted Democratic for economic reasons.
More like: the left turned toward anti-white identity politics. Things like so-called "affirmative action" and "critical race theory" (which is even infecting math education in places like California) have become non-negotiable among Democrats.
This is a pretty good example of how well the Republican strategy worked. Convince white voters that anything that isn't directly benefiting white people is "anti-white" and they'll believe anything else they are fed.

Nothing comforts the weak minded quite as much as being told it's not their fault.
Maybe. But I believe the narrative that being taught in schools is extremely important and both sides of the issue know it.

What the youth learns and becomes indoctrinated with.... is what the world will be like in the future.

I think you are grossly underestimating the difficulty of passing legislation with 48 Democrats and effectively 2 conservative moderate Independents. It got done in the end. He tried to follow through on campaign promises (apparently you think this is a bad thing), when there were limits, he held within the limits and got TWO appropriation bills passed.
Biden promised out of Afghanistan and it went nearly perfectly, by tail between the legs standards, with the one bombing... and managing to get a lot of Afghans out as well.

No, a clusterfuck would be US troops on TV with bullets about to be pumped into their heads. The US managed one of the best runaways since Gallipoli. That isn't to say it was free of let downs, and we lost soldiers lives in an attack. But it'd seem impossible for it to have gone much better, short of prevention of the bombing that killed US troops.
Bringing hundreds of thousands of Afghans here, when 98% of them support Sharia law, was also an idiotic idea.
The US made promises, the US actually held to them. It was about the only positive moral outcome from our occupation in Afghanistan. It wasn't like the Syrian Kurds that Trump abandoned, or any of the other times the US screwed over *insert ally or innocents*.
Economy is growing.

No, it didn't. Inflation is being driven by distribution and energy. Otherwise, we wouldn't be seeing jobs growing.
Expanded unemployment was continued a year after the economy was almost entirely reopened. Expanded child tax credit lasted even longer. Student loan interest and payment holiday is still going on, even though college graduates are on average better off than the average American.
The funny thing is this continuing idea from such a liberal like yourself, that people don't want money to go on vacation or to get a car or buy a house... because they can simply not work because their loans are on pause? Are you for real?!
Imagine how much worse inflation would have been had the fauxgressives been victorious in ramming B3 through Congress?
Probably not much worse.

Thanks fortune cookie. You seemed to have ignored the point of the post you were responding to... the one saying that 'that indoctrination isn't even in the classroom'. It is merely enough to suggest that CRT is being taught to "prove" it is being taught... when it isn't being taught!

It could be noted, so I will, that some people don't want "comfort". They want "conflict", they want to feel "angry", they want to feel "wronged".
It's not that they don't want comfort. Racism and xenophobia were once respectable political and philosophical factions. There was science and theology to support it. The key word is "respectable." There has been a very significant sea change in American culture. Racism is now seen as ignorant and a sign of low intelligence.

It's poor salesmanship to send out a message than makes people think one is stupid, and worse, those who agree are stupid as well. Trump supporters are particularly sensitive to being labeled as "stupid". The new sales pitch is "I'll get back all the stuff you lost." No one will say what was lost, or who took it, because that will bring up the stupid problem again.
Or it could just be that the US is not quite as racist as some want us to believe. Just how did a racist country elect a black president? Because there were so many racist voters who decided to vote for someone who was not their own race?

To be sure, the US was racist in the past but does that mean reverse racism should be the acceptable norm now? And if whites are punished and reformed today for sins of the past they had no control over, how does that help the US progress in the future? Especially those whites (like Elon Musk who immigrated themselves recently) who clearly had nothing to do with the US pre 1860 circa.

Will such policies enhance social acceptance and harmony? Do we see such results working today?

I predict the same thing you do but for different reasons. A lot of blue Californians have moved to Austin who are eventually going to make the state purple and bluer.

But I also predict California will become a little more red because there are a lot of people left there who are sick of the high taxes and homeless shit.

California is trending "blue", not "red". Like Austin, we're taking in mass refugees from other countries and other parts of the country, looking for a place where they can live their life freely yet still turn a decent salary.

Something popped into my mind this morning while I was listening to a pro-Trump candidate's radio ad. It was basically a mish-mash of buzzwords and phrases like "woke mob, drain the swamp, secure the border, the unborn, and corrupt Washington." Turns out a state Senator is going to fix the border and clean up DC!

Anyway, I couldn't help but think that if I were a Republican (and I was back in the 80s), I would have every right to be furious with Trump right now. The GOP is fractured, to put it mildly. He has made it all about him...either you're pro-Trump, or you're a "RINO." Used to be there was an 11th Commandment about not speaking ill of a fellow Republican, but now it is "that guy is a Deep State Libtard because he won't back Trump hard enough!!!" What used to keep the GOP relevant despite shifting demographics and slowly progressing society was unity and uniformity of message. They get a platform, find a message, and everyone stays in line. That's how they got enough votes to put George W. Bush in the White House (with an assist from Florida and the courts). That's how they took back Congress from Obama. They all lined up behind Trump in 2016, but right now? There's a very ugly power struggle going on, and that's not good at all for a party that hasn't been able to muster a majority of the vote for a long time now.

Why be mad at Trump? Well, imagine a world (movie trailer voice kicks in) where somewhere near the end of the first week in November 2020, Trump called up Joe Biden and said "you know what, you ran a good race, congratulations on your win." Maybe file a few lawsuits, but concede and quietly sulk while the transition team does their job. Had he done that, the GOP would be poised right now to take back not just the Senate and the House, but to sweep them in the way that happens when an incumbent is historically unpopular. They might even be able to get enough to override a veto. There would have been no second impeachment. No non-stop news coverage of the Capitol being stormed. No January 6th Committee. No tearful pleading from Proud Boys and Oath Keepers at their sentencing hearing as they said they were just following orders.

None of these distractions would be happening, and a united Republican Party could be on message. Maybe even with a message that's too big to fit on a hat or a bumper sticker. Maybe Trump would take a less prominent role and Mitch could pick Senate candidates that can form complete sentences. All in all, Trump has done a spectacular amount of damage to the Grand Old Party in the 18 months since he should have been a quiet lame duck President. Now he's an albatross around the neck of the Republican Party.
