There's no monopoly. There were many who were against Nord Stream. However, Germany is a soverign country. We can't tell them what to do. Germany wanted cheap natural gas. And there were some who thought that economic development with Russia could prevent Russian imperialism. They were wrong. Won't be the last time. Trump was incredibly wrong on many other issues regarding Europe and Russia: weakening of NATO; Nato would fold; and etc.

The problem with German energy policy isn't a matter of timing; It's a matter of letting hopeful beliefs take precedence over actual realities.

I agree with you at this point. But there is a potential green energy in the future that we don't know about now that could generate base energy. But today, yes, you can't have a clean energy without some nuclear.

Which is why they should have left their existing nuclear base up and running until it was no longer needed. What could be easier than just leaving existing green capacity in place?
