Houthis turn pirate

Cute, but this has been organized by the "People's Forum", which also organized pro-Hamas demos earlier in the war.
They're an investing group whose dividends are change and growth metrics cultural impact. They're not just in the market; they're trying to change it. Thus they are protesting Biden to prevent expiring out of the money.

Lemme get this straight.
"People's Forum" is an investing group who advocate for Islamic violence because why?

Here's what you said:
"Thus they are protesting Biden to prevent expiring out of the money."

That sounds like they are invested in pro-violence Jihadists. So, now they are protecting their investments.

Close but no cigar! They're making strategic moves to guide a particular outcome. It's called positioning (P) to execute a certain undoing (U) with the goal of reaching a desired target (T).

What's the target?
If it's the destruction of Gazans, they are succeeding admirably.
Tom

Forget it. Just know I believe that Houthis needs to be stopped.

You and I agree on that.
Does "People's Forum"?
Tom

Why would they? The Ansar Allah (what you know as Houthis) has been around before October 7th, 2023. Yemen has been getting hammered by Saudi Arabia & their Western-backed coalition for well over a decade now. The People's Forum has only been around roughly 5 years and likely consist of people who know Yemen existed before 2023. Besides if you look at their about page, its obvious they won't stop until they've brought about a new world. What that world looks like is anyone's guess but I hardly believe it's one where death and destruction is welcome (like Derec and yourself seem to believe). Misguided? Maybe, but active supporters of terrorism? That's a stretch.

Marc Champion - Bloomberg Opinion columnist said:
If the strategic goals of the US are to restore the free flow of trade through the Red Sea, to prevent the war between Hamas and Israel in Gaza from igniting a regional conflagration, and to thwart Iranian efforts to halt Israel’s normalization into a new, more stable and prosperous Middle East, then this morning’s fire and brimstone is likely to prove counterproductive.

In fact, one can’t help but feel that the US, like Israel after Oct. 7, is dancing to a tune that was scripted for it by a rogue militia in a failed quasi-state that has little to lose.

. . . if you doubt that the main aim of Iran and its proxies is to stoke anger at the US, listen to Hezbollah’s response to the US action. “The American aggression confirms once again that the US is a full partner in the tragedies and massacres committed by the Zionist enemy in Gaza and the region,” the Lebanon-based group said in a statement on Friday.

Despite this, the USA may have been more-or-less forced to act:
Marc Champion - Bloomberg Opinion columnist said:
There are at least two views you can take on the US decision, joined by Britain, to strike Houthi targets in Yemen early Friday. Although they are entirely contradictory, both would be correct.

The first is that this was inevitable. Both politically and to retain credible deterrence against further hostile actions by Iran and its proxies, doing nothing was simply not an option for President Joe Biden. The second view, and doubtless the reason he had first hesitated, is that there is little likelihood of success and a measurable risk of escalation.

The major blame falls on the failure of all peace efforts, and Netanyahu's disproportionate response to Hamas atrocities.

Russia just needs better coordination with freedom fighters and maybe better rockets which refuse to hit russians shipping.
Who are these "freedom fighters" of which you speak? It can't be the Houthis - they are terrorists who terrorize not only merchant shipping but also the Yemeni population.
New U.N. report highlights Houthis’ ‘systematic persecution’ of Yemeni Jews
Oppression of Baha’is in Yemen
Houthi crimes against women
Houthis step up their oppression of Yemen’s women

But, but, they are staunchly anti-Israel, so the fauxgressives (like those from the "People's Forum") love them.

I fail to see how it is. Ignoring Houthi aggression against international shipping would be counterproductive. Continuing to merely shooting $20k arrows with $1.2M arrows would be counterproductive over the long run. Finally targeting the archers has the chance to be very productive - if US and UK keep it up and don't leave it as a two-off.
In fact, one can’t help but feel that the US, like Israel after Oct. 7, is dancing to a tune that was scripted for it by a rogue militia in a failed quasi-state that has little to lose.
I don't think so. I think Houthis counted on US inaction given that it is a election year and parts of Democratic coalition are staunchly anti-Israel and threatening to abandon Biden. I am very curious what this Marc guy thinks should be done.

Hezbollah has the Ayatollah's hand firmly inserted up its butt. Their words are written in Tehran. It is hardly evidence of anger at the US having been stoked by US finally responding to months of Houthi aggression.
There are at least two views you can take on the US decision, joined by Britain, to strike Houthi targets in Yemen early Friday. Although they are entirely contradictory, both would be correct.
That makes zero sense. Either they are not "entirely contradictory" or they are not both correct, or neither.
The two statements are not contradictory, and only the first one is correct.
I think he hesitated because of politics - especially within the Democratic Party. And indeed, Republicans seem to be more in favor of the strikes than his fellow Democrats. Degrading Houthi capabilities can certainly work as Houthis will certainly be wary of losing advantage in the Yemeni civil war. As far as danger of wider escalation, I think that danger is far higher due to inaction, as our enemies would be emboldened by it.
None of the quoted portion gave any hint of what this Marc "Baldrick" Champion's cunning plan would be.
I'll have to read the rest of the piece, but I am not very confident.

Could you link to it anyway?

What would in your opinion have been a "proportionate" response? If you were PM of Israel, what would you have done?

Everybody knows that. So?
Besides if you look at their about page, its obvious they won't stop until they've brought about a new world.
Western leftists often align themselves with Islamists.
What that world looks like is anyone's guess but I hardly believe it's one where death and destruction is welcome (like Derec and yourself seem to believe). Misguided? Maybe, but active supporters of terrorism? That's a stretch.
And yet they support Houthis now and have supported Hamas in their protests since last October.

And what is their target? Actually, do elaborate on specifics of all three letters, P, U and T.

I support this attack. We need to ensure that the strait is free for commerce. I'm not so sure about "long overdue".
Houthis have been attacking shipping since November. That's a rather long time.
The Biden administration is juggling a lot of balls right now. It is not in our best interest to have the ME war expanded.
I think ME war is far more likely to expand due to inaction than due to action. Just like WWII that was made possible by inaction in face of Nazi Germany's increasingly bold provocations (remilitarization, reoccupation of the Rheinland, Anschluss of Austria) and naked aggressions against Czechoslovakia.
You primarily care about the ME. I've never seen you post in threads regarding Ukraine/Russia and or China/Taiwan.
It's not that I primary care about ME, but that there is less activity on it than some other issues on here, so I post more to make up for it.
I have posted on Ukraine before. Not sure if I have posted in the main thread, but I have in others. I am all in favor of US support for Ukrainian defenders. Taiwan issue is more simmering than active, so there's isn't much to say, but I do support Taiwan's independence.
North Korea is always threatening South Korea.
It is. It juts shows that it was mistake letting DPRK gain nuclear weapons. And it will be a mistake letting the regime in Tehran get nuclear weapons too.
I support Israel. I support taking out the pirates trying to stop commerce through the strait. But the US as a whole has far more on its plate than just helping Israel.
That is true too. Many things are happening. Note though, that neither Israel nor US chose this war, nor its timing. It was forced upon us by actions ultimately orchestrated from Tehran.

letting DPRK gain nuclear weapons
How could anyone have stopped them?

A nation that wants nuclear weapons badly enough to disregard international sanctions (or against whom sanctions are already in force, leaving no further room for the rest of the world to apply diplomatic pressure) will inevitably be able to build one. It's not easy, but with the full resources of even a shithole like North Korea, it's eminently doable.

The only way to prevent a country from getting nuclear weapons is to make them want not to, more than they want to.

I mean, you could try to simply eliminate the nation in question by military force before they can develop nukes; But in the case of North Korea, the US already tried that, and failed miserably.

The time for proportion has passed with the decades. "If you were PM". Humph! Here take this flaming bag of poop now. What a totally Republican thing to suggest. Sure George, sure Donald, sure Bunjamin, let me unfuck this for you.

It was a stock investment joke. Forget about it.
