Donald the Orange and Family Sued in NY

Wow, nobody trusts Trump enough to guarantee his bond. Go figure.

Pundits say his properties will be seized. The process could start soon, but a long process.

A state civil case that a president can not make go away.

He is arguing that it is cruel and unusual punishment under the 8h Amendment, but it applies to criminal cases.

So is there going to be a fire sale on a couple of properties to pay? Or does the State of NY cease the properties in this case?
Seriously, Even if he was allowed to sell his interests in the properties where has an actual interest rather than just a contract to put his increasingly worthless name on it, he is not an outright owner of anything. If you own your home outright you are probably worth more than Trump.

He is a FRAUD. He already lost all the money he stole from NY, and the money he has been grifting has gone to lawyers. He was probably upside down before these judgments, and now he’s $500m MORE upside down.

IMNSHO the first thing creditors should do is seize his plane. It’s only worth a few million, but it would keep him out of trouble for a while. He might have to fly coach, if they can wedge him into one of those seats. He could charter his flights, if his credit was any good …

How about...EJC has her lawyers draft a contract that says, Mr. Trump, you're into us for, what, about 90 million. We are willing to forfeit 45 million of that if you sign a statement that ALL of our client's allegations against you are true, that you assaulted her, and you knowingly defamed her. And, finally, that if you ever disavow this new declaration, that you must pay the full amount now assessed against you plus an additional $20 million that we'll call Jean's Mad Money.

I know, I must've been into the legal pot...but it would force Trump to decide which he wanted more, $45 million or winning the election.
That’s not a question. Lose another $45m and win the entire US treasury? No brainer.

Online revenue is unlikely to cut it, too.

There's a MAGA dating app? I assumed they found each other while frog gigging or shooting Miller Lite empties off fence posts.
That is the MAGA dating app.

There are properties they could attach that would devastate Trump -- his golf resorts, Trump Tower -- and there might be a number of attachments, because some (many?) Trump properties are mortgaged and have creditors to pay off. He will be berserk as the process goes on, and the attractive side of that is how completely self-absorbed his speeches will become -- even more so than now, no matter how impossible that sounds. This is the side of Trump that will not bring on the independent voter. They'll see through his bloated claims about his own wealth (which were also at the core of his fraud conviction) and they'll hear nothing from him that sounds like a plan for the country. It will be the shrieking of a selfish little boy. I don't see him as having any self-control over the side of him that wallows in self-pity and fantasies of revenge. We could very well see the deepest, darkest side of Donald if they start to take his treasures away.
I hope.

Awww, Donny and Donny Jr. are asking for contributions to pay Donny senior's legal bills.

It is worth noting that when Trump's career was revived with his "reality" show, he went from owning buildings to licensing his brand name to buildings he didn't own. A lot of his wealth went from being wrapped up in brick and mortar properties to having properties with his name plastered on the front. The physical buildings he still owns are (apparently) leveraged to the hilt, and Trump is wroth a lot on paper, but is cash poor.

More importantly, though (as you've correctly pointed out), his own personal worth - not the dollar about, but what it means to him - is wrapped up in his "treasures" like Trump Tower and Mar A Lardo. These are not just entries on a spread sheet for him. They are a huge part of his identity as a "billionaire." He thinks they're worth a lot more than they really are...not because of location or actual value...but because they are "Trump properties." I'm looking forward to seeing what they actually sell for vs what he claimed they were worth.

Leticia James is Khan.

Has there ever been such flagrant, predatory grifting from a presidential candidate? In my short lifetime I cannot find anything to compare. And this is from the clown who told everyone he won't take contributions and doesn't need contributions because he is so fabulously rich. But the idiots keep sending their money, and I know the type because I have such idiots in my family.

This being a case outside his ability to intervene as a president and make things just go away, I hope he's busted down to living with Clarence Thomas because all his alleged billions were just smoke. He can always shine shoes for Harlan Crow.

What happens if Orange doesn't pay?

Considering some of Trump's companies had a string of bankruptcies in the 1990s and early 2000s that nearly financially ruined him, it's unlikely his companies will file for bankruptcy again.

With the proper segue from a reporter, Joe could give Trump all the good gouge about Amtrak.

Trump needs a Big Idea to get back on track. I think I have it. Step One: shake every loose dollar out of his followers, enablers, and fellow psychotics, and buy the Heritage USA property in Fort Mill, SC. Step Two: start rebuilding what Jim and Tammy had, at its peak; rebuild the castle, the water park, etc., re-open Main Street USA. Step Three: Guarantee every donor who puts in $10G a week's stay at Heritage Tower (Trump won't live long enough for this deal to crumble -- that's the hope.) Step Four: resume TV production of PTL, which is now President Trump Land. He'll actually save $$$ by doing his rallies out of a studio. Add a little Jebus to each rally -- it's amazing how Trump + old time religion will bring the cash rolling in. Step Five: Bring on the Proud Boys as campus security and Trump's personal militia, should anyone attempt to serve a summons on him or (Almighty God forbid) attempt to arrest him.
Trump just needs to realize that he has the power of God, and once he starts using it, he will be unstoppable. He will have the power of angry old white people + psychotic levels of xenophobia + transphobia + orthodox bullshit Bible worship + egomania. He'll gleam with power. This can't all happen in 2024, so Trump should aim for 2028, when he'll be a tan, youthful 82, and when he wins the Presidency, he can put up a brand new aluminum sided White House at PTL and run the country there.

Zackly.
I don’t think he “owns” so much as a golf cart free and clear. It will never come clear to his rubes that the lifted Ford pickup they’re driving around, is worth more than the fake billionaire they’ve been following.

It should not be hard for Trump to spin it as The Evil Empire stealing billions and billions from him. And his morons are too math-challenged to understand that the total judgements, plus legal fees, plus penalties and interest, don’t amount to even ten percent of what he claims to be worth.

So yeah, it might sting in the short term. But if it turns out the sympathy vote, he wins the election and lives happily ever after.
God forbid.
There are good arguments to be made in favor of bringing back literacy tests to qualify voters.

How so? This is not a federal issue. He's fucked ten ways to Sunday unless he can get the principals out of office.

He still has this last con, which I just can't get. Truth Social makes Xhitter look great. It is a small boutique social media Xhitter clone, and the deal could be worth billions? On what planet?!
Sure sounds creepy. It sounds like Orange is continuing in the path he has always taken which is to screw the investors out of their money. It says if the merger goes through and is approved he gets 3.2 billion dollars in stock value. There must be some serious idiots out there. That or else institutions are banking on Orange's brand, which has certainly worked in the past for certain institutions so long as they played their cards right.

Trump got a bond at the last minute for the Jean Carroll settlement, but will he repeat that feat with this business-fraud one?

New York AG pushes back on Trump's 'extraordinary' request to stay $464M fraud judgment - ABC News
New York Attorney General Letitia James is pushing back on Donald Trump's "extraordinary" request for a stay of his $464 million civil fraud judgment, arguing the former president's recent request was unreliable, procedurally improper and based on a flawed premise.

...
Earlier this week, Trump's lawyers argued that the former president is unable to secure a bond for the judgment – having been rejected by over 30 insurance companies – due to its size and his need to post properties as collateral.
Trump judgments: What’s an appeal bond? What happens if he can’t get a $454 million loan?

First discusses appeal bonds, a way of ensuring that money will be available for a settlement.
Add onto this fact that companies might understandably be wary to do business with the Trump Organization. After all, the conclusion reached at trial was that the Trump Organization routinely lied to financial institutions about the value of Trump’s assets in order to secure favorable business loans. It’s a bit ironic, then, that Trump is now struggling to convince financial institutions to take seriously his representations about his ability to pay his debts.
What happens if he cannot get the bond?
The best scenario for Trump is that the New York appellate court might decide on its own to grant Trump’s request to stop New York from collecting its judgment.

...
If I had to guess, I suspect that something like this is the most likely outcome, if only because the other outcomes are so bad.
What else?
First, Trump could sell assets to generate the cash he needs to secure a bond. This would be an especially expensive outcome from Trump and his businesses because, when it comes to real estate, the worst time to sell is when you are being forced to do so.

Second, either Trump or his businesses could declare bankruptcy. Bankruptcy, after all, is meant to protect people who can’t pay the debts they currently owe, which would be Trump in this situation.

...
Third, the state of New York has the right to seize Trump properties in order to cover the judgment. Attorney General Letitia James has already stated that she is willing to do this if Trump doesn’t provide a bond.
