Keep 'em dumb and stupid

And you can have Gilead.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is pausing federal grants and loans starting on Tuesday as President Donald Trump’s administration begins an across-the-board ideological review of its spending.

The funding freeze by the Republican administration could affect trillions of dollars and cause widespread disruption in health care research, education programs and other initiatives. Even grants that have been awarded but not spent are supposed to be halted.

“The use of Federal resources to advance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies is a waste of taxpayer dollars that does not improve the day-to-day lives of those we serve,” said a memo from Matthew Vaeth, the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Good thing that Trump won’t implement project 2025!!

The key to this policy is "of those we serve". This policy exemplifies who the Trump administration serves.

If they succeed in all their plans, I think there's a real risk of degrading the value and competitiveness of American degrees in a permanent fashion. You'd like to imagine that everything is the usual tit for tat, new policies every four to eight years sort of problems. But if our reputation slips to the point that US degrees are no longer a draw for talented overseas students, if all the would-be doctors and scientists are heading to European and Asian universities instead of here? That's not going to be as easy to fix as it was to break.

The education system is low of the list of problems. Right now, the Trump Admin seems at ease with stopping the waste... where stopping the waste means doing their job. They have no idea what they appear to be doing, they've been jerking themselves off with the Laffer curve for so long, they think it actually means something.

The memo from the U.S. Office of Management and Budget called for a spending freeze on federal assistance by 5 p.m. Tuesday, which could affect everything from aid to nonprofits, universities, small business loans and state and local government grants. AliKhan paused the enforcement of the directive until at least Monday at 5 p.m. to allow for further litigation.

The current stay applies only to open programs that federally funded. The issuance of new funding is not affected by the court action.

He's got the whole party behind him on setting conditions for federal disaster funds to California (a state, of course, that sends in tons more tax money than it receives back in programs.) You know -- in the great tradition of using disaster relief as a bargaining chip.

I really wish we'd get the secession talk up and rolling again...
Can Michigan secede to Canada? I've been there several times. The people are very nice.
Jesus Murphy, we're not aboat to take you randos from the States. You voted in the Trump, you deal with him, eh! Besides I very much doat you could eat a full plate o' poutine, and that bein' the case, it's just your luck, you bet. We're not havin' it!

For some time, I have been considerably less worried (long term) about how few US students go to graduate school or professional schools. I'm not certain how all of the racists will feel when the only medical professionals were born overseas on one of Trump's shithole countries.

In the nearer term, I'm very worried that 1) foreign students will be less likely to come to universities in the US directly because of Trump and his band of racists which will not only slow down modernization in foreign countries which are desperate to get their populations up to competitive speed but also will diminish the tuition universities receive--foreign students usually pay full freight while many/most US students get some degree of assistance, even if it is only paying in state tuition rather than out of state which foreign students usually pay. State universities are hurting for students and for funding.

The real plan is to cultivate ignorance because it is much easier to manipulate and control people who don't know much.

I think this was only true in a world largely dependent upon manual labor. Today, intentionally cultivating an ignorant workforce will only beget a country dependent upon other nations for technology.

It is not difficult to understand that it is entirely possible to have a workforce that is well trained vs well educated. Educated people tend to think, to hope, to dream. Trained people simply do their assigned jobs and leave the thinking to other people. You only need some people who are educated enough to design, invent, create, think, manage, solve bigger or broader problems.

BTW, I think the tech bros vision is to have a underclass who does the grubby parts. Whatever they say about immigrants, they sure do rely on them.

Hey now, dontcha know us Minnesotans are all about the poutine, eh?

this is why the tech likes the H1B visa program while the America-first MAGA don’t.
