Nope....Just pointing out that both sides could use a little legitimate political discourse.

Democrats were telling us that Republicans were going to force women to have babies and prevent them from getting abortions. We heard that Republicans were going to ban gay marriage and not allow transgender kids to get their hormone treatments and surgeries. And they said Trump was Hitler. Do I have that right?

Republicans (specifically Trump) was telling us how shitty the country was with Bidenflation running up the price of "groceries" (he said he got elected because of that - more on that later). We heard we are being invaded by illegal aliens...all that was missing was Carl Sagan saying "billions and billions of aliens"... and of course, those communist democrats. Life was pure shit here in the US. Does that sound about right? Is any of THAT "legitimate political discourse".

Here's the thing. He took office. Out of the 11 million illegals, he very publicly and with great fanfare rounded up a few thousand of them. Then he move on to tariffs....first they are on, then Canada an Mexico agreed to do what they were already doing so he pulled them..but said he still might impelement them. He's put an unelected drug addict who was born in South Africa and who is the autism spectrum in charge of LOTS of sensitive data...a man who overpaid for a $19 billion company, then fired everybody, then got pissed off because advertisers didn't care for some of his "tweets" (Xes???) that were somewhat antisemtic and pulled their advertising, then told them to "go fuck yourself" as he proceeded to take that companies value down to $650 million. And working for him are 21 year old recent college grads. One thing he hasn't talked about is those damned groceries, other than to say early on that prices might not come down. AFter that - crickets. And of course, he used the loss of 67 lives to push his anti DEI agenda after reading a prepared "compassion' statement, which he read like a dyslexic seventh grader, then he became Trump and blamed DEI, Biden, Obama, Buttegig and democrats for the loss of those lives.

So Trump and Republicans weren't conducting any "legitimate political discourse". And they are sitting back as what was supposed to be the WEAKEST of the 3 branches of government becomes the final authority on anything an everything....effectively endorsing a dictatorship. I don't think that's what voters thought they were voting for, but since our country has become an extension of our presidents reality TV show, they don't seem to care. And constitution loving "patriots" overlook the part of the constitution talking about "no national religion" as our president creates a department to fight Christian persecution.

I believe you misconstrued my original point. I was suggesting Democrats have a Jan6 of their own, but more competently. And it would be fine as even the former head of the RNC described such an action as "legitimate political discourse".


And yes Derec. I know you believe BLM is the left's version of Jan6. But pretty much like everyone else I'm fucking tired of repeating why you are wrong.

The Democrats are out of power, but many of the same avenues are available to you. You can donate money to, for instance, legal organizations opposing actions by Trump that violate the Constitution. You can also write to members of your government and ask them nicely to oppose policies that do harm. You can read the news, gather facts and arguments, and talk to other people.

Next time, please don't run an empty suit that speaks in ciphers as your Presidential candidate. Find an actual candidate.

Lesson learned. Now, can we ask Republicans that, rather than fly your Trump flag and MAGA hat, you might requst that your president involve congress in his plans. The executive branch was designed to be the weakest branch of government. this was to help prevent our nation from becoming a dictatorship or monarchy. A lap dog congress that sits on it's hands and approves everything because they are more concerned about getting reelected and need his support. IN the last few weeks, what branch has dictated teh direction of this country? We have the right to bear arms to protect us from tyranny and to protect our constitution. Yet they watch as a man does whatever the hell he wants and ignores the courts orders to stop or slow down. THIS is when you are supposed to rise up for the country. Back in the 1700's we fought the red coats to escape a monarchy. Today, they are fitting soldiers for their own red coats. And if you don't stop, the flag of America may well becom this....

Political parties "going into the gutter" has been going on since the caveman days. Its not the domain of just one party. Hillary Clinton was given debate questions ahead of time by Donna Brazille in her debate with Trump.

Yup. One of the examples was Hillary was told she would get a question about Flint MI's lead water crisis (caused by a Republican BTW). The debate was actually held in Flint. What are the chances there wouldn't be such a question? And do you think Fox and Trump would not do the same if the opportunity arose?

Support groups (and YouTube creators) who promote skepticism. Currently supporting Skeptics' Guide to the Universe. It may not be world changing but they do great work all the same.

Anyone have a suggestion of a website that is recording all the crap trump is doing? I know the heavy duty MAGAts would ignore it. But I'm thinking of people like my brother in law who voted for Trump but didn't pay any attention to any real news and doesn't know what he is doing now.

I've been reading Electoral-Vote.com since W. Low tech, but they follow US politics very well, with decent depth, despite the brevity they are able to manage commentary and explanation with. Noise to content ratio is very low.

Happens to about 20,000 US fetuses annually - after they’re born. Very few at the hands of doctors though.
Obviously it would be more propitious to go after those.
 
I have two crazy ideas:
(1) Exhume Edward R Murrow. Or find someone like him.*

(2) Start a Democratic cable TV network. (ERMNews) To create some actual balance.
A few comedy shows are obviously not enough.

*(1a) Create a Murrow AI and give it a show.
