What TV are you watching and how would you rate it? [Revive from FRDB]

Not every person who voted Republican is a maga cultist. I have no problem trying to reach out to those who believed the right-wing lies, especially after reality bit them in the ass.

And both Sam Seder and his co-host Emma have gone on Tim Pool. Sam proudly claims he left Pool’s bathroom in a toxic state 😁🚽

The ones who aren't nowadays are statistical aberrations. And I should have clarified; Sam, Emma and Lance from The Serfs have all stated they went on Tim Pool in an adversarial capacity. There is no way Cenk is going to do that.

Reacher, season 3, 8/10; Streaming on Amazon, season 3 is much better than season 2.
I liked Season 1 but was mildly bored with Season 2, enough so that I wasn't particularly interested in watching another season. Perhaps I'll look into it...

Season 2 was not very good. Season 3 does have its flaws and there a few things that don't work but for the most part it clips along and is entertaining.

Some Reacher books are entertaining. Some are not. Season two was made from one of the latter.

I don't know why they adapted a dull book.

Season 2 felt like punishment.

I see that they are making a spin-off series for Neagley. Release date is about a year away.

I really can't stand Steven Seagal-esque Mary Sues. Reacher definitely qualifies as one.

She wasn’t that interesting. Hard to see her carrying a whole series.

I've praised most of the series I've reviewed here. This post will be an exception.

I watched The Undoing (2020), an "American mystery psychological thriller" television miniseries starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. I love Ms. Kidman and expected to love this also. The series gets 7.4 IMDB points, but I'd give it only 5.8 or so. I like mysteries, but "psychological thrillers" work for me only when very well done. This one did NOT thrill and any "psychology" was confused and badly plotted.

Except for the two excellent stars the series is an utter flop. Don't waste time on it. Some reviews agree with me: "Through all of the misdirects, the characters' dumb decisions, the dreamy detours" ... "It's all extremely rote."

To explain in detail why the story development was inept would be Spoilers, but I'll mention one annoyance. In a critical interview an informant takes time out to mention a grammar error. To deflect a very serious conversation this way might call into question the informant's psychology: I treated it as a clue! But it was a complete red herring (if not just a scriptwriter's joke) and never mentioned; the informant's opinion was taken as truth.

I started Bloodline (2015-2017), also an "American psychological thriller." I've abandoned it; it's bad in so many ways I won't bother to review it. It gets a whopping 7.8 IMDB points, but -- based on the 4 episodes I did watch -- I'll give it 5.1.

Having just reviewed two series, let me review two more. I should be very embarrassed at the huge amount of TV I'm watching lately -- sorry if it's detracted from my duties here at IMDB! 8-)

Five Days (2007) is a British dramatic television series, though it is more of a "psychological thriller" than the two series I just reviewed. It gets 6.6 IMDB points and deserves about that much.

I just finished White Lotus, a "dark comedy drama anthology" though it might also be called a "psychological thriller." It gets a whopping 8.0 IMDB points. This will be my THIRD review here: I rated Season 1 at 6.1, and Season 2 at 7.5. But Season 3 is awful for several reasons; I'll call it 4.8.

Each of the seasons follows about 3 or 4 groups on their week-long vacation at a resort hotel. In Seasons 1 and 2 there were interesting interactions among the groups, but not in Season 3, with all subplots terribly flawed and excruciatingly tedious. One of the least important subplots was the romance between Gaitok, hotel guard and Mook (played by Blackpink's Lisa). Gaitok realizes he is too much of a pacifist to have the fierceness a guard needs and plans to quit; this lack of ambition is a big disappointment to his would-be lover. The series ends with a gun-battle after which
Gaitok finally shows up and becomes the hero by shooting the villain carrying a dying girlfriend -- shooting him IN THE BACK.

I once thought that IMDB ratings were a good prediction of my own opinions. But of these four "psychological thrillers", the one with the worst IMDB rating ws the one I liked the best!

Finally got back to watching Peaky Blinders while my wife was away for a week (too violent for her). Interesting story line, very good acting, and the scenery, costumes, and especially the cinematography are excellent. The music is modern, and definitely not mainstream, but it somehow works well. A solid 8-8.5.

OMG! I just ran across The Man Show on tv. I figured those tapes were burned twenty years ago.

Mobland, on Paramount+

Tom Hardy is a fixer for a crime family, trying to juggle marital stress, old grudges, and preventing a war between two families.

Violent, lots of plot twists, and excellent acting. Also stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. I'm enjoying this one.
