Once widely perceived to be the wealthiest country in Central Europe (“the happiest barrack in the socialist camp,” as it was known during the Cold War), and later the Central European country that foreign investors liked most, Hungary is now one of the poorest countries, and possibly the poorest, in the European Union. Industrial production is falling year-over-year. Productivity is close to the lowest in the region. Unemployment is creeping upward. Despite the ruling party’s loud talk about traditional values, the population is shrinking. Perhaps that’s because young people don’t want to have children in a place where two-thirds of the citizens describe the national education system as “bad,” and where hospital departments are closing because so many doctors have moved abroad. Maybe talented people don’t want to stay in a country perceived as the most corrupt in the EU for three years in a row. Even the Index of Economic Freedom—which is published by the Heritage Foundation, the MAGA-affiliated think tank that produced Project 2025—puts Hungary at the bottom of the EU in its rankings of government integrity.

A shitty dismal future awaits if MAGA is not ended soon.

It's all about kleptocracy and fucking over everybody not in the inner circle.

Orbán also talks a lot about “the people” while using his near-absolute power not to build Hungarian prosperity but to enrich a small group of wealthy businessmen,

That's about the sum of it and why Heritage et al. have been so eager to follow his model. Just wait till they get a Medvedev president with Trump having some other position before they can work his then drooling fully checked out demented living corpse back in the presidency while they divide up the spoils. Might not be many spoils left by the end of this year though. I'm sure Heritage is ready.

With regard to Hungary which came first, the poverty or the populism? Was Hungary a once thriving non populists mega economy that was destroyed by populism? Or did it become a shitty place to live for other reasons (like the US and other parts of the world now) causing public populism to take hold in politics? I think it is more the latter than the former but in the case of Hungary I'm not sure about the exact timeline.

They say communism and socialism are definitely inferior to free market unregulated capitalism and we can clearly see that difference between north and south Korea. But I'm not so sure about populism resulting in a poverty economy. If anything, history shows us that the populism of Nazi Germany became hugely successful as far as the German economy itself was concerned.

You have not convinced me yet Axulus, but I' still listening.

What is the basis of that "thought", as you put it? Not evidence, obviously. Orban has been in power for almost a decade and a half, it is fundamentally illogical to claim that he has no connection to the events and figures of the last few years.

But then, you are claiming in the very same post that one of the wealthiest nations on the planet and the greatest bastion of capitalist economic planning is "a shitty place to live" , so perhaps you are aiming for consistency rather than logic.

"I don't see what's so autocratic about Orban!" -MAGAtards

"What does Hungary have to do with America??" -MAGAtards

"Orban is good because he hates socialism and I do too!" -MAGAtards

It is rather cute that RVonse won't admit that his knowledge of Hungary and Hungarian history could be written on the back of a postage stamp, without removing it from the envelope.
Ah, but how many "tax pengos" would that stamp cost?

Authors of OP crap forgot about Bulgaria.
Hungary's GDP is among ballpark of other Eastern Europe countries such as Poland, Slovakia, Romania.

Paid "protesters" will shout anything, it's a matter of money.
And also, they need work on their English pronunciation, cause it sucks.
Maybe it was Hungarian and they were actually chanting "Russians are great!"

Let me guess. Paid by George Soros, am I right? If so, your Jew hatred is also our Jew hatred. Makes sense we would ally based on our mutual Jew hatred. We can conquer the Jews together. Nazis of the world, unite!

Barbos, it's your lucky day, I'm about to get you your Kremlin bonus. Create an AI video of various leftist protests, but edit in multiple protestors that look exactly like George Soros in his 20's, 30's and 40's. Make the claim that he made hundreds of clones of himself and is now sending them out to protests. It will be the perfect deception to advance the Kremlin and the fascist narrative the world over. You can thank me later when you get offered an upgraded apartment in Moscow.

I don't know, probably.

I don't hate them. I like Jeffrey Sacks and Glenn Greenwald. Not to mention Einstein and Feynman.

Well at least in this matter, we can all acknowledge that you have relevant expertise and experience to back your claim.

Makes a pleasant change. ;)
I know,I have been paid huge money to post on this extremely popular and influential website for 20 years.

Thank you for admitting it.
No problem, I never denied getting millions of dollars for my work to help communism to take over the whole world.

Reality is, most these protests are paid. And both sides are doing it but to a different degree and with different audacity. Yours is way more.

LOL, these fuckers came prepared and did not lie about Hungary being the most corrupt country in Europe (EU). Of course ranking itself is BS and it is actually people who compiled it who are corrupt. But at least they have prepared this BS.

By the way, Hungary is leaving ICC, the most corrupt court in the world.

Well when people struggle to find any other reason for your ludicrous and often times offensive comments, what do you expect? It is assumed you have unfettered access to all the information everyone else here has yet for years now you have tried to convince everyone that we and the entirety of western news media is wrong, and with nothing to show for your efforts.

*And it's a pittance not "huge money".
