Trump's Appointments

God what a horrible clown we have as president. The American Nero.

Well, it has been over 100 days, so this seemed past due.
article said:
Mike Waltz, President Donald Trump's national security adviser, is set to leave his White House post amid continued fallout weeks after he invited a journalist into a chat between top national security officials discussing plans for Yemen airstrikes.

A source familiar with the situation on May 1 confirmed Waltz's exit, as well as deputy national security adviser Alex Wong. Their departures mark the first major staff shake-up since Trump's return to the White House in January.

Trump had publicly stood by Waltz after his national security adviser and other members of the chat vigorously denied sharing any classified war plans on the publicly available app Signal. The chat was revealed when Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, published a March 24 story detailing how Waltz accidentally invited him into the communications.
Pete Hegseth shared this stuff with family on Signal, still has a job. This implies the Trump Admin is as dysfunctional as ever and there are a bunch of trolls warring with each other for access and control of Trump.

Laura Loomer apparently doesn't like him. When news comes out of Laura Loomer being a spy for Russia... no one would be surprised. It'd be an accident that got someone killed at the County Fair... just seemed inevitable. Laura Loomer makes Stephan Miller and Steve Bannon appear like James Carville.
I would not go that far as to say that Loomer is worse than Stephen Milker or Steve Bannon. But then I think that past a certain degree of evil, corrupt, incompetent, degrees no longer matter.
Stop arguing, kids! There's plenty of evil to go around.

I don't know what I'd do if someone stole my '79 Stratocaster
My ‘79 Schecter “Strat”, bought in ‘79 three weeks after it left the Van Nuys shop (left). Still the most precise instrument I ever had (other than a Steinway long since sold).

The one on the right is a 1959 melody maker. I got it in 1968 and should have left it original but had a new pick guard made and an original Tele pickup put in the bridge position and the sunburst finish stripped. My two favs.

Insuring them is a difficult thing to figure out; both are pretty rare, but the Schecter being 100% original is super rare - that shop didn’t produce a lot of finished product back then and a lot of what they did were custom orders by big stars. So it’s unreplaceable, but that doesn’t mean gigantic value.

Nice!

I don't have any glamour shots of mine, but here it is:

Not really sure what the value is, since it is not original. I knew the bridge wasn't original (it's a G&L) but I didn't know that it was a non-tremolo guitar until I took it in to get it set up after it had been sitting for years. The guy I took it to (guitar YouTuber Phil McKnight, who's shop was just down the street) said "ooh!" and pointed out the modifications. I bought it off a fraternity brother in college who was strapped for cash. He sold it to me for 300 bucks. I think I got a pretty good deal.

As far as Trump's appointments go, I didn't think the winner of the "Who Knew Better But Still Bent the Knee" contest would be Little Marco Rubio. I mean, Senators Cruz and Graham sucked up to him after saying terrible things/having terrible things said about them, but Rubio went all the way and took a job where he's (likely) humiliated in person by Trump on the regular. You can almost imagine him saying "yes Mr President, I'll take that Cabinet position too, and what's that? Yes, I'll bring you another Diet Coke, sir."

When I'm headed out to the trail I'm actually carrying some reasonably expensive stuff but what mugger is going to recognize that?
Once you’re 5-10 miles from the trailhead, fear of robbers definitely takes a back seat to more immediate concerns! For one thing, you probably aren’t carrying a whole lot, and if you are, you are likely in far better shape than any robbers you’re likely to encounter. They’re not going to be real excited about carrying stuff back to the trailhead …
Of course you are aware of the strength of the survival ethic and mindset that settles upon people, once they’re removed far enough from civilization. The spirit of co-operation mysteriously becomes elevated to primacy IME.
Yeah. Window smashers at the trailheads, but once you're even a mile in prospects for the robber become pretty slim. But "better shape" isn't a binary. Yes, I can almost certainly go farther than anyone I meet that bears me ill will, but I can't do so quickly.

I do agree there's a lot of cooperation out there, but I don't think that's mysterious. There are no meaningful resources to compete for, to the extent that there is an adversary it's the environment, not other people. The only time humans out there would worry me is if it's a grow.

That sounds so quaint.
Here, there are now multiple mini "grows" on every block, and pot shops for the tourists on the main drag.
Nobody is gonna suffer and toil in the wilderness trying to compete with that.
What we worry about (if anything) is meth labs. Very bad shit for the environment, and very bad people doing it.

Even with it being legal there have been illegal grow ops. The illegal ones don't pay for land or water. And, locally, they limited the number of licenses and thus didn't completely destroy the illegal market.

I do agree about the meth labs. While I'm solidly on the side of legalization that doesn't mean I have any tolerance for improper handling of hazardous materials.

Trump nominates Casey Means for Surgeon General. Her focus is nutrition. Can you believe that? Nutrition! She gonna make y'all eat your dadgum vegetables. Aussies need not worry. When they pry your sausage from your cold dead hand, eh?

I remember when I retired from the navy and came back to Ohio. I often ate at my brother's house. After a time, I casually broached the subject of vegetables and the lack thereof on their supper table. The next time I came around, SIL had bought a bag of salad. I couldn't resist. I told her I could teach her how to make this stuff herself. The relationship started to slide.

Casey Means isn't too hard on the eyes. Probably the only reason Trump nominated her.

The previous nominee was pulled after Loony Loomer screeched that she was a) pro-Covid vaccine and b) pro-DEI in some sense.
Yes, the republic shall prosper under the calm stewardship of DJT. Either that, or it's seriously time to count the lifeboats.

You remember how the righties freaked right out when Harris was going to start a healthy foods initiative?

Since this is an atheist board, some of you may be amused by the etymology of "cretin":

Wiktionary said:
cretin
English

Etymology

From French crétin (“cretin, idiot”), likely from crestin, an Alpine dialectal form of chrétien, from Latin christiānus in the lost sense of “anyone in Christendom”, often with a sense of “poor fellow”. Doublet of Christian.

Noun
cretin
(plural cretins)
1. (pathology) A person who fails to develop mentally and physically due to a congenital hypothyroidism. [from 1779]
2. (by extension, derogatory) An idiot.

Romanian has a same-spelled word with the same meaning, also derived from the same-meaning French "crétin."

They are very good at taking a comment from the left and painting the entire political demographic with it. I can't help but think we're part of what makes it spread.

I don't know if you read Casey Means' Wikipedia page near the time I posted the link yesterday but it sure did change in the last eleven hours, and not for the better. It is as much focused on her association with others as it is her own resume. I might do some poking around to see if it is deserved. It reads like someone from the AP wrote it. Her Wikipedia page eleven hours ago read more like the article Reuters posted on her.

There is a link to "functional medicine" at Casey Means Wikipedia page.
