I am surprised there hasn't been a thread started already on the 2025 edition of the LA Riots. This time, the riots are pro illegal immigration.

Cars set on fire or had rocks dropped on them. And not just police vehicles, but Waymo vehicles as well. Stores are also getting looted.
Foreign flags are being waved, while US flags are being burned by the rioters.

But I am sure some people on here will say that (just like the riots in 2020) these are "peaceful protests" and completely justified because ICE is deporting people.

These riots are entirely and unequivocally a pretext for the Federal Government to set a precedent for the use of US military force against US citizens.

They were inspired by, and are being inflamed by, the President for that explicit purpose.

I do think law enforcement could have been a little more low key from the get-go.
So when going after people, the supposed worst of the worst in broad daylight in liberal city centers drew the attention of and angered the gen pop, the National Guard was of course needed to make matters worse. No. This is just DIckhead being a dickhead.

Apparently the protests started off quite peacefully. Later in day the usual renta-mob showed up and it all kicked off when they went on the rampage. Entirely predictable. LAPD is shorthanded (thank you former mayor Garcetti and current Marxist mayor Karen Bass who were all for defunding the police) and were struggling to contain things. So the place was trashed and looted, cars torched and freeways shut down because of these morons. I had to drive through DTLA yesterday evening to LAX but other than helicopters I didn't see any obvious signs of the protests. I am not very familiar with DTLA so I don't know exactly where the bother was. I did watch on TV some maniac driving a minivan through the area. He didn't have any PD chasing him. Eventually he pulled into a street where he probably lived and waited for cops to show up.

I agree with you that defunding the police is about the dumbest democratic line in history! And anyone breaking the law should be held accountable. Period. However this is a local issue; should be handled by locals. Not the fed. Not Trump. Last time Trump tried to help California in a local problem, he pissed away 2.2 billlion gallons of water into the desert. He’s too incompetent.

We don't know the above. Some of the protestors could be US residents furious that their mother or father will be soon deported. They have the legal right to peacefully protest. This is a situation that should be managed by locals. Not a federal government trying to expand its constitutionally limited power.

While I'm not old enough to remember Watts, I do remember the King riot in LA. The word "riot" seems misplaced at this point. There has been violence, but riots imply widespread with lots of damage. Like in Minneapolis.

LA is not under threat of Mexican annexation. So I have no clue what you are talking about.

It is very easy to demonize people when you dehumanize them. People are angry in LA because for a lot of these people, these migrants are family or ethnic blood. The Trump Admin isn't targeting criminals, they are targeting whomever they can get their hands on. These people may not have legal standing to be living in the US, but that doesn't mean as much to other people when they are parents, children, siblings.

This doesn't justify violence against the police. It just takes one guy to snap.

I agree with you that Trump is exceedingly incompetent at times.

But he can not just sit back and allow a state that is already disobeying the spirit of his elected mandate to get out of control. The voters of the US clearly said they want to curtail illegal immigration. And like it or not, California is part of the US now and not Mexico. It is the responsibility of the POTUS to ensure that remains the case going forward.

The fact that the local politicians refuse to do anything about this should tell you something important. It tells you that the local community is already highly sympathetic to Mexico and would like California to become part of that country instead of the US.
