More chaos at the CDC.

Days after Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that Covid shots would be removed from the federal immunization schedule for children, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued updated advice that largely countered Mr. Kennedy’s new policy.

The agency kept Covid shots on the schedule for healthy children 6 months to 17 years old, but added a new condition. Children and their caregivers will be able to get the vaccines in consultation with a doctor or provider, which the agency calls “shared decision-making.”

What is shared decision-making. Does that mean they need a Dr's note? That would be a barrier for millions of people. It would filter people who do and don't get the scot on criteria having nothing to do with the decision.

Mr. Kennedy’s original pronouncement on Tuesday had caused an uproar among pediatricians and public health experts, who pointed out that very young children and pregnant women face high risks of severe illness from the virus. Many also worried that the new policy would prompt insurers and government programs to reduce or drop coverage of the cost of the shots.

The latest changes clarify coverage for healthy children older than 6 months. But they leave those highest-risk groups — pregnant woman and young infants who are covered by immunization during pregnancy — without a formal recommendation.

Last week, the Food and Drug Administration cited pregnancy as a high-risk condition that would qualify a woman for a Covid vaccine, which also contradicts the decision by Mr. Kennedy to drop pregnant women from the C.D.C.’s recommendations.

The changes continued Mr. Kennedy’s penchant for bypassing the accepted process for deciding vaccine policy. Last week, the F.D.A. said that adults over 65 and those with certain medical conditions could obtain new Covid vaccines in the fall. But the agency did not release a detailed outline of new information about risks and benefits of the product, as had accompanied past decisions.

Typically, the C.D.C. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices holds a public meeting where experts review data on vaccine safety and on rates of illness, hospitalization and death. The committee members then issue recommendations on who, depending on age groups or medical conditions, should get each vaccine. That committee, scheduled to meet later in June, had no say in the latest policy shifts this week.

  • and an unnamed doctor who is pregnant

The groups are suing US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, and Matthew Buzzelli, chief of staff at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who is serving as its acting director.

The lawsuit argues that Kennedy and the Trump administration acted “arbitrarily and capriciously” when they changed the Covid-19 vaccine recommendations. The lawsuit asks for preliminary and permanent injunctions to enjoin, or legally prohibit, Kennedy’s Covid vaccine recommendation changes and a declaratory judgment pronouncing the change in recommendations as unlawful.

Is there a simple realistic explanation of why Trump hires morons like RFKJr? The Quack's agenda doesn't help Trump with his grifts. It doesn't help Putin's or Koch's agenda, unless these billionaires think thousands of deaths of American children will benefit them. It certainly doesn't lead moderate Republicans to believe that Trump, after all, really does have a 100+ IQ. What's the advantage for Trump in such an appointment?

Part of it is that Trump and MAGA seek to be the Anti-Democrats. Democrats believe in science, so QOPAnon and MAGA reflexively default to the anti-science position. They don't embrace Kennedy's quackery despite that it's stupid but because it is stupid.

What am I missing?

One thing is odd. Trump's ONLY achievement in his first term was to set up to make it possible for the Covid 19 vaccines to be developed and distributed so quickly. One achievement he could have crowed about. But his stopid base hated it and so Trump never crowed about that one achievement and he's letting RFKjr destroy it.

Most of the development that went into the branded "operation" that enabled The Felon to take credit for any benefit, happened long before Trump was a candidate for president, accomplished by systems coordinated by people like Tony Fauci, and the "success of the operation" had less than nothing to do with Trump.
But his talent for taking credit and placing blame is undeniable.

Not from steroids. That said, RFK Jr does have many problems, and is probably the absolute worst choice for a cabinet ever. So, why the need to make up false stuff about him? The true stuff says all you need to know!
