Split New York City Mayoral Race

To notify a split thread.
I don't know about where you live. But around here no government money goes into graveyards.
Governments regulate them, but they are privatly owned. (Mostly by churches,) Plots are bought/subscribed by reletives.
So not relevant to public transit. (There is NO public transit around here either. :-(

Our city owns several graveyards. Probably due to abandonment by the original owners.

No public transit here, either. The cheapest taxi is ten bucks one way, so twenty to get back home. And that's without a tip.

What Zohran Mamdani previously said about defunding police:

His recent self-serving statements that he does not want to defund police should be taken with a shaker of salt given his quite forceful prior statements on the matter.

He isn't going to defund the police. It is much easier to say things like that when you aren't in control.

But his previous statements will be held against him. I have no idea who is going to win the election. Mamdani might not be able to pull it off.

His biggest problem is that Mamdami lacks the authority to do most of what he campaigned on.

@Derec today it was wonderful falafel on pita slathered in hummus from the Muslim halal Arabic suicide bomb food cart nearest me. 😋 Tasted great, and nutritious, too!
Dang
That sounds good.
I didn't know what falafel was, so I googled it. Delicious.
But I know my partner (fussy eater like a 2 year old, despite being in his 60s) won't eat it. Oh well, maybe a halal food cart will show up in my Jesusville, Trumpistan neighborhood some day.
Tom
If you don't live too far from Indianapolis, you could find lots of falafels there, as there are numerous Mediterranean chain restaurants in Indy that sell hummus, falafels etc. In Georgia, we had a nice little Italian/Mediterranean restaurant owned by a Lebanese immigrant who has been a citizen for decades. She sold a delicious falafel wrapped in a pita with hummus. That's what I always ordered when we ate there. Look up a place called the Hummus Republic. It's a chain so maybe there is one near you. They do have some meat options for your fussy partner and lots of other things like pita chips, and sweet potato fries, pita wraps, as well as the hummus bowl. A hummus bowel is a bowel where you choose your greens, your hummus flavor, rice or beans, your protein, some things like onions, tomatoes, etc and then top it off with the sauce of your choice. There is another similar chain but I can't recall the name right now. Ok. I know we are way off topic, but I'm not the one who started talking about Mediterranean food and I'm hungry right now. 🥗 I guess this belongs in the foodie thread.

Today, in honor of Mamdani, our next mayor, and NYC’s large, peaceful, and prosperous Arab-Muslim sleeper cell suicide bomber community, it’s off to my fave halal cart for falafel on pita bread with lettuce, tomato, broccoli, carrots, green peppers, onions, and other goodies, all slathered in hummus. The pita sandwich is as thick as a fat burrito. Price: five bucks. 😋 Eat with fingers.

I’m careful to time my visits for when there isn’t a crowd queuing for food, since I presume the cart owner will choose to set off his suicide bomb to kill a large number of people.

The one thing that would concern me, about the mayoral race in NYC, if I lived there, is that since the other two jerks are staying in the race, it might make it harder for Mamdani to win, leaving the city with a Republican mayor. The NYC Dems need to work hard to get out the vote, as does the rest of the county when it comes to the midterms.

If the centrist democrats are stupid enough to throw away the election to a Republican "influencer" just to keep a progressive out of office, they deserve the hell-stricken dystopia that would result from Sliwa's leadership would make of City Hall.

I don't disagree with you. I'm just stating what I've read about that race. if Adams and Cuomo had dropped out, it would be easy for Mamdani to win. The last time I checked, he was almost tied with the Republican.

As I said, the Dems need to do a lot of work to get out the vote, including among black residents as they haven't been nearly as supportive as Mamdani as the young white ones have. That is all based on what I've read and heard by the liberal tv pundits. Sadly, there are too many people who don't vote because they don't like either candidate. I was just discussing this with a very young man the other day and he seemed to agree with me that no candidate is going to meet all of your criteria, but one is always better than the other or if you're a negative person, one is the lesser of two evils. :)

Mamdani beats all NYC candidates combined in new poll.

Has wide lead among Jewish voters.
The one thing he has going for him is that he is facing Cuomo and Adams, who don't exactly impress anyone.

Another Democrat Socialist - Omar Fetah - received the DFL (Democrat Farm Labor) endorsement of mayor of Minneapolis over the encumbment, Jacob Frey.

That guy is even worse than Mamdani, and has been involved in campaign fincance scandals.

What are these idiots thinking endorsing him? Not even the Knucklehead is willing to go that far.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz endorses incumbent Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for reelection

Ha! Don't rely on the Farm Labor vote in NYC.
Isn't the WFP the NY equivalent of the FL portion?

If by some miracle Silwa were to be elected, I do not think he could do that much, given that he would be balanced by the very left-wing city council. A very left-wing mayor (who in the past advocated for "seizing the means of production" and "abolishing private property", as well as for defunding police) could do a lot of damage because of an ideologically aligned city council, as well as the little less left-wing but still well left-of-center governor and state legislature.
The "hell-stricken dystopia" scenario you fear is far more likely with Mamdani occupying the Gracy Mansion.

I think you need to check again. Mr. Cardamom is well ahead of the pack, unfortunately.
The only chance for electing a sane mayor is for Adams to drop out and endorse Cuomo.

Indeed. And Mamdani is clearly the greatest weevil of them all.

They are, for all their manifold faults, the lesser evils here.
