Musk on camera says he wants to move millions to Mars.

In our culture some people are called crazy. A wealthy crazy guy is called eccentric.

Another Messiah Complex?

We can put all this money and resources into building his monster rocket and we can't provide affordable housing.

What happened to the good old days when people with money built school and hospitals?

Kids with AIDS in Africa that we used to help, before we found out the USAID was, you know, just crawling with Marxists...because of this manic, clueless, amoral human.

Well, SpaceX did just have a suborbital flight of the Starship during which it reentered without losing control and stayed mostly intact. So it won’t be long now before millions of people are living on Mars, a place more inhospitable than even Antarctica, which I guess must be getting full by now.

I think it is inevitable there will be cat tropic failures and loss of life.

Thanks to climate change it shouldn’t be too much longer before Antarctica becomes more like Santa Monica and will be a much sought after place to live.

How long do you suppose that will take? Given that climate change is naturally variable I’m guessing a few more millions of years, right? But I’m assuming you have a better estimate than I do given your expertise on the subject.

As Santa Monica is full, off to Mars it is.
Well Santa Monica is certainly overpriced as far as real estate goes, but if I had the means, a house or condo there would be nice, and with considerably less radiation than a spot on Mars. And while the traffic in the greater Los Angeles area is notoriously bad, getting to a home in Santa Monica from...say...Manhattan Beach isn't going to take six months like a trip to Mars.

I hear the weather in Santa Monica is the best on Earth, uneffected by climate change, 72○ days all year. 😎

Judging by the hysteria of the climate doomsayers it will be sooner rather than later.

Most people couldn't handle a soft-shutdown during Covid-19 for two months... and they think we can manage living inside a dome and never breathing fresh air for years or forever?

Exploration of Mars via people would be a magnificent achievement. People can do some things so much better than robots. But this idea we can live on a planet we aren't adapted to live on is one of the dumbest ideas ever. Absolutely nothing about living on Mars would be an improvement. Air, food, gravity, bathrooms, the entire reason for being there. Professionals suffer from depression living in Antarctica! The isolation alone will make living on Mars a psychological nightmare.

Musk isn't nearly as smart as he thinks. His pipe dreams are usually poorly thought out and rarely a good idea.

Life on a shitty Earth will still be better than life on Mars.

But you know they are wrong so how long do you think it would really be?

Well with runaway climate change, tipping points reached, oceans boiling and less than ten years to save the planet, I’m actually surprised Antarctica isn’t a tropical paradise already but it is imminent.

But since you know that there is no runaway climate change, only natural variability, how long do you “actually” think it will take?

Give me $5m and I will conduct a study and tell you exactly when it will happen. Or you can tell me what result you want the study to say and I can adjust.

You should move there NOW before prices go up.

I guess the point of my question was that we know you can provide bullshit answers; I was just wondering if you could provide an intellectually honest answer.

So, thanks for clearing that up for me.

That's what happens when you ask bullshit questions.
So, thanks for clearing that up for me.

My pleasure.
It’s a “bullshit question” to ask you when you think Antarctica would be habitable again?

I guess perhaps since it has been so long since any interaction with you has had the presumption of good faith that every interaction now is spoiled.
