Justice report finds systematic discrimination against African Americans in Ferguson

If you really don't believe that than I am sorry. However, "they get warrants because they missed a court date" has been an argument about how horrible Ferguson is since the MB shooting on here.

Then your understanding of Ferguson's ordinance is faulty
Enlighten us then.

Your use of scare quotes around the word 'music' says a lot about you and your position in this (and similar) threads.
As I said to the squirrely one, it's almost always hip-hop regardless of the race of the driver. Inconsiderate, asshole-ish drivers are definitely strongly correlated to drivers who like hip-hop.
I do not know what my dislike for hip-hop says about me particularly.

I play music very loudly. I do not care for hip hop. You might hear Devo, or the Stones, or even Bryan Adams. But no hip hop.

I am talking about playing music so loudly that it is loud even to those outside your car (audible inside my car over the sound of my own radio!), often achieved by use of aftermarket speakers and subwoofers. Obviously the objective is to be annoying, not to enjoy your music at the desired volume. That is not frequent, but when it happens it's almost invariably some dreadful hip-hop, not "Whip It", "Paint it Black" or "Summer of 69". Of course it could be just I never drove past you. ;)

Teenagers playing loud music is a new problem? An evil problem? Music which began in black communities is popular among teenagers of all backgrounds is new? Is evil?

What exactly is new or especially evil about teenagers and loud music?

Derec,

R&B, Rock, Country, whatever is popular music in the US or even globally either has come out of the African American experience or been heavily influenced by that experience so just about anything you hear coming out of popular radio will be "black music."

Just Just heads up.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

There is nothing on earth as boring or as pointless as listening to old people complain about young people.

It has nothing to do with age or race, but with some drivers being inconsiderate assholes who deserve all the tickets they get for their assholeishness and then some!
And if they can't afford the ticket, perhaps they should hock their $2000 car stereo system. Just an idea.

Loud music cannot be played on a cheap factory provided system now?
I think somebody needs to tone down the stereotyping.

They have much less power. I.e. they are much less of a problem re disturbing people outside their car. I don't care if they ruin their own ears. But when their stereo is louder in my car than my stereo, then that's a problem.

You have failed to provide any factual basis for your prejudiced assertion that the only music played loudly enough to warrant tickets and/or arrest is black music. Nevertheless, in an apparent effort to assure us your non-factual asserted opinion is not based in racism, you assure us that your claim applies to the music, not to the race of the person driving the vehicle.

Small problem with that... you fail to show that white hip hop rap listeners are being ticketed at the rate black hip hop rap listeners are in Ferguson. In other words, you fail to show that the DoJ report is wrong on this point.

And your fundamental error is that you continue to ignore the fact that the police officer was in violation of their own law in ticketing the young man in the first place - regardless his race, regardless the volume, and regardless his music (which the DoJ report does not specify; it could have been Country for all you know).

You really need to drop this line of thought Derec, because every word you've written on it is so wrong, unpersuasive and very unbecoming to you.

I agree. About that subject, there are a lot of unsourced quotes floating around on the Internet, quotes that may well be bogus. But here is a sourced one:
I would there were no age between ten and three and twenty, or that youth would sleep out the rest; for there is nothing in the between but getting wenches with child, wronging the ancientry, stealing, fighting...

William Shakespeare: the shepherd in "The Winter's Tale" (1623)

Even if someone played Mozart's second concerto very load I would be annoyed. As to the OP.If you are black, white,or brown you need to think about respecting others around you.You can express yourself all you want, but do not imposes on others.

ETA:As much as I hate to agree,HIP HOP played loud is the most annoying.

when Mozart became popular, old people complained about the noise.

1. It's not my "prejudiced assertion" but my experience. I doubt St. Louis metro area is that much different in this regard from Atlanta metro.
2. I did not say "black music" but specifically hip-hop. While the two have an intersecting set the two are certainly not identical nor is one a subset of the other. I.e. there are plenty of non-black hiphoppers and most "black music" is not hip-hop.
3. Obviously my claim applies to music. The original objection was that people were offended I put "music" in square-quotes.

Small problem with that... you fail to show that white hip hop rap listeners are being ticketed at the rate black hip hop rap listeners are in Ferguson. In other words, you fail to show that the DoJ report is wrong on this point.
Certainly the burden of proof is on those asserting a racial bias. From what I have seen from the DOJ report, they have not shown that blacks who blast their music loudly are ticketed at higher rates than whites who do the same. The only thing they have shown is that blacks are ticketed more often which is hardly the same thing.

And your fundamental error is that you continue to ignore the fact that the police officer was in violation of their own law in ticketing the young man in the first place - regardless his race, regardless the volume, and regardless his music (which the DoJ report does not specify; it could have been Country for all you know).
If the interpretation of the ordnance given in that article is a correct one.

I find people who blast their music so loudly that it is louder in my car than my own stereo inconsiderate assholes who should be ticketed. As such I support tougher laws targeting such behavior and I certainly support the right of police to ticket violators without a third party complaining. I am not going to apologize for any of that.

when Mozart became popular, old people complained about the noise.
They had the option of not going to venues where his music was performed. They weren't assaulted by 10+ kW of extra loud Magic Flute coming from the carriage next to them. Do you understand the difference between listening to the music you like, even at high volumes, and blasting your music for the express purpose of annoying everyone in a 100 ft radius?

Also comparing Mozart to the noise which is hip-hop is rather ridiculous.

and I am sure many hip hop fans today would say that as well, except they would call hip hop music and classical music dead white people noise.

Also, the old people still complained about Mozart being played ANYWHERE, regardless if they were hearing Mozart at the time or not.

are you listening to hip hop now? And yet you are throwing shade.

You are allowing something you don't like to occupy your head and your heart for what purpose and to what end? According to the DOJ report, black folk playing loud music are already having their lives turned upside down, so unless you want people hanged, what is your problem?

I know I ask people to turn down their music. Do other people not do this? I've never gotten any crap about it.

well, NS

When you are a grown person, like you are
And you don't fear other human beings, like you don't
And you speak to people in a respectful manner like you do

Then say you ask people to turn the music down and they do.
This is what most people do

But if you are childish
If people frighten you
And you don't know how to speak to people

Then you complain anonymously on the internet while wallowing in self pity.

Nothing like ad hominem attacks, right Athena?

This is how I usually look. But instead of the gun and the dog, it's a salami and and a piece of toilet paper on my slipper.

I'm hard of hearing and drive a convertible. So.... yeah.

Indeed, or you would know that my rockin' at high volume tendencies have been going on since long before hip hop was available for purchase. (I am pretty sure no hip hop was ever produced in 8-track. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
