Immigration Issues

Why do you think that engaging in intentionally misleading use of language gets you a win? This is an absolutely stupid abuse of words. The only people you convince with this "it's not illegal to be a person" are stupid people.
It is not illegal to be a person. That is reality. It may be illegal to in a country that does not make anyone an "illegal". The intentional misuse of language is to call undocumented aliens "illegals".

Yes, it is accepted by nativists, white nationalists, racists, their dupes and their enablers, but that does not make any less of a misuse of the word. And it is done either for political purposes or for stupid reasons.
This is why it's stupid, LD. Everybody knows that it's shorthand for "illegal aliens". Absolutely NOBODY has EVER thought that it implies that being a person is illegal.

So to 1) intentionally misconstrue what one KNOWS to be meant so that 2) one can erect an argument against it... is extraordinarily transparent bad faith. It convinces nobody, it accomplishes nothing. It lets the few people who insist on parroting "it's not illegal to be a person" feel like they're winning because they get back-slaps and high-fives from other people who do the same silly thing. And everyone else merely bites their tongues and silently acknowledges that the entire premise is idiotic.

It's the same for the idiots going on about "All Lives Matter". Like, no shit - we know that, everyone knows that, and absolutely nobody anywhere ever though that BLM implied that anyone who wasn't black didn't matter.

It's absolutely pointless virtue signaling via sloganeering.
Words matter, Emily. Unfortunately there are plenty of people who believe that immigrants are all here fraudulently and are not worthy of being considered human beings or treated with respect or dignity or even the same right to life they want to grant to a ball of 16 cells.

So what are you signaling by your word choice?
Out of the "plenty of people", can you name even one who meet the criteria you laid out?
I’m not necessarily thinking of anyone here although if I thought hard enough, I might have the misfortune to come up with a name or two of members here. Few members here are so called ‘right to lifers.’ I was thinking of the general public. For instance, I was born in a state that is pretty reliably ‘red’ and many of my former classmates are very firmly, loudly and vehemently ‘right to life’ proponents. Many of these same people are vehemently against ‘illegals’ and are quick to refer to anyone with brownish skin as ‘illegal.’ Most are smart enough not to publicly refer to those with African ancestry by the n word in public, anyway. In private? I don’t want to know. But we all ( in that time/place) grew up hearing racial slurs at home. I’m not going to name my former classmates or my brother in law who likes to spout off about ‘illegals’ and is very anti-abortion although he’s never married and likely never had to worry about a partner’s unplanned pregnancy—and was raised by parents who supported the Civil Rights movement and were pro-choice.

Hey, I’m one of the few people I know still on FB. If you are, try looking at any posts about ICE or immigrants. You’ll see lots of people using ‘illegals’ and if you check out their profiles you can see a lot of ‘right to life’ references as well.

It’s almost as though you’ve never met anyone who is MAGA…..
So, in summary, "No". You specifically said, people who believe "immigrants are all here fraudulently", "not worthy of being considered human beings". That is some strong language you used. Still waiting on a name...
Not going to give you a name as I stated. I’ve made suggestions: just go on FB and presumably X and look for discussions about ICE actions in Minnesota or other states.

You don’t wanna? Fine by me. I don’t give a shit what you believe.

The people that the statement:
Donald Trump in a Presidential Debate said:
They're eating the dogs, the people that came in, they're eating the cats. They're eating the pets of the people that live there, and this is what's happening in our country, and it's a shame.
...was designed to engage and vote.

Perhaps you missed the part (now in enlarged bold-faced red) of Toni's response where she describes people who fit her description in your zeal to discredit her. Certainly, you won't blatantly and intentionally misrepresent someone's position.

Toni did not claim her former classmates or BIL believe "immigrants are all here fraudulently" nor did she claim they believe immigrants are "not worthy of being considered human beings". "Spouting off about illegals" is not the same thing. Thanks for red, enlarged type though. That helps to show our readers at home how she did not support her claims, and that what she said is hyperbole and exaggeration. Kind of like what the orange man living on Pennsylvania Ave does.

It helps to show how desperate you are to discredit her because it is clear in the context of the discussion that “spouting off about illegals” includes all the specifics mentioned.

BTW, at least one of my two brothers fits precisely her initial description.

Oddly, enough, you told Emily "Words matter" (see bold). Yet you are unable to back up with evidence anyone who fits the words you yourself claim describe "plenty of people". So much for "words matter".

So do 50% or more if the people I graduated from high school with.

ICE certainly behaves as though they believe anyone who ‘looks like an immigrant’ ie has brown skin or darker or even in a pinch, some pretty Aryan looking people are here illegally. Including young children. Medically fragile people. Given that they are abducted off of streets, sometimes forcibly dragged from vehicles through smashed windows and incarcerated without any due process in conditions we would not tolerate for stray dogs, I will consider as to say that if you are unaware of what is happening, it’s because you don’t want to know. Or you agree that this is just fine.

Look at Kristi Noem for example. She enacted legislation that forbade abortion with only some exceptions to save the life of the mother. There’s a name for you. Although to be fair, she has no problem shooting puppies and goats if she doesn’t like their behavior. And she has zero problem lying to Congress or using your tax dollars and mine to flit about the country in very luxurious jets. I shudder to think what she spends on hair and make up, extensions and fillers, not to mention her cosplay wardrobe changes.

I would love to know but there is never any evidence to support the narrative.

Calling undocumented aliens “illegals” is dog whistling. It encourages the terroristic impulses of ICE. It allows the utterers to feel superior and that they support “law and order”while everyone else just winces at its insensitivity and racism.

I find it ironic that you call out the racist “All Lives Matter” while defending the use of illegals.

Especially since many of the so called “illegals” are asylum seekers who are here legally but lumped into that category.
It's not a fucking dog whistle. It's not anything other than shorthand that everyone understands. This is linguistic coercion at its finest.
Of course everyone understands. But it is still a dog whistle.

Not to mention it's been discussed right in this thread. I directly know someone who is a legal immigrant and was treated as if they were here fraudulently, and who was treated like garbage, being flown to Texas and only recovered from those attempting to deport him via court order.

That's not treating someone like a human being, it's treating them like an "illegal".

That is something that actually fucking happened.

So to me, every last shitheel who ignores that happening is the person who is the "real example" behind the hyperbole.

Its "gay frogs" territory, and the hypocrisy around that is clear as day, too.

I also recall some VERY recent complaints about being told not to blithely call folks "illegals" in its own sort of unwarranted extension...

"Spouting off about illegals" is an open ended statement and not rigorously fixed. I'm not sure how to interpret thebeave's bullshit other than it being bad faith. I'm sure thebeave has been around long enough to know what an open ended statement is. Unless he's actually a child who's just now learning how language works.

I've noticed that words only matter when it allows some of you to behave in a superior fashion and be snide toward those you've decided are beneath you. Words don't matter when it's your fellow travelers... then it's context that matters and the words are irrelevant.
So what are you signaling by your word choice?
I'm signaling nothing more than that it's absurd to have to type a bunch of extra words when every single one of you knows what is meant.

I am tired of this virtue signaling purity contest.

I’m not necessarily thinking of anyone here although if I thought hard enough, I might have the misfortune to come up with a name or two of members here.
Okay... so even though you're not referring to anyone here... you still need me to jump through linguistic hoops and be subjected to coercive rhetorical manipulation to what... prove to you that I'm virtuous enough to not be subjected to needless and pointless finger-wagging?
