Yet another war, this time with Iran

The way the war is going dems should win but what's the point if they can't get enough votes to send orange shit and his war criminals/insider traders to prison?
The Dems can manage to fuck up even the easiest opportunities. They lost unions to a party that openly hates unions.

So much the worse for moronic union members. Maybe they will learn from their mistakes, but I doubt it. And I come from a union family. They weren’t stupid dupes when I was growing up, at least not for the most part.
They annoyed every demographic

Every demographic?
so much that it put Trump in office twice

Every demographic put Trump in office?
by failing to disavow and give voice to radical nincompoops.

Who would these “radical nincompoops” be? People who believe others should be treated as they themselves would like to be treated? Come to think of it, I guess Jesus was considered a radical nincompoop back in the day.
They're very creative in their ability to lose what should otherwise be easy wins.

You can keep deciding the Democrats should throw people under the bus to advance their electoral prospects. i will continue advocating for human rights for all.

I too came from a union family. Fiercely loyal to the union but right to hard right otherwise.

The issue is ever so much more complex than slandering “radical nincompoops,” whoever those are supposed to be.

I grew up in suburban Detroit. My father was a union member who worked for General Motors and he was a staunch New Dealer. He despised Nixon. He despised Reagan. He even jubilated when Reagan was shot.

But things changed. By the late 80s he was listening to, and was enamored of … Rush Limbaugh.

My father was staunchly pro-union and anti-Republican, but in truth he was also a racist.

By the late 80s the Great Right-Wing Hate machine was aborning, and it was figuring out how to play upon the bigotries and fears of white blue-collar workers. It was figuring out and slowly perfecting a strategy to move such people away from economic issues and toward social and cultural issues instead. This trend accelerated greatly with the rise of Fox News and the internet, with its endless legions of grifters, charlatans, bigots, buffoons, boneheads and con artists who could suddenly obtain a platform before the whole world to spew their venom and hate. And gain followers and likes.

My own view is that the real mistake the Democrats made was to abandon the New Deal and go in for the “New Democrats” or “Third-Way Democrats” philosophy of Clinton and his ilk. When it became evident that the Democrats were economically selling out working-class people in favor of ever greater corporate profit and control, the field became ripe to do the reaping for right-wing turds pushing the “culture wars.”

No one should ever apologize for defending the human rights of all. Those who oppose those rights are the ones who owe an apology.

As Lincoln said at the Cooper Union in 1860, those appeasing the slaveocracy were "reversing the divine rule, and calling, not the sinners, but the righteous to repentance.”

I do not like bigotry. I do not like discrimination. I do not like separating people by race, gender, class, caste, sexual orientation, or what have you. As Henry Miller said, I consider myself a citizen of the world. I do not like national frontiers or flags, those “colored rags,” as Krishnamurti called them. It is worth quoting Krishnamurti again:

When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind.

Well, this thing is getting more and more bizarre.

Why would Hegseth fire the Army Chief of Staff in the middle of this war? ANS: because he opposes a ground invasion, and knows it would be foolish. And also because he will not support a regime of war criminals.

Hegseth is pissed that he didn’t make it as a military officer. He couldn’t really cut it. He is looking for revenge.

I was watching Downfall last night. Although I’ve seen it many times before, I wanted to see it again to understand better what’s happening today. The parallels are amazing. I won’t say Trump is a genocidal maniac. Yet. But in watching the scene where Hitler loses control and raves at his generals, he claims he didn’t go to the Academy and so he didn’t learn how to handle a knife and fork, but he conquered Europe on his own. Hegseth and Trump are like that. They think they’re smarter and more strategic geniuses than the professional army officers who’ve been doing it all of their lives. That can be true sometimes, but definitely not in this case.

This move signals a serious ground operation of some kind, Kharg Island or something. The alternative is that it signals a full on war crimes regime targeting civilian infrastructure that Iranians need to live.

In the meantime, WTI surged over $12 in one day and, for the first time I’ve ever seen, surpassed Brent. This is because Brent is being priced for June and WTI for May. The markets are betting that this war will be over and forgotten by June. Not sure about that.

Trump pledged to end the war in a few weeks regardless of the outcome. But I'm skeptical that he can just walk away like he says he will. Not without serious loss of face and serious consequences both for the U.S. and his political survival. It would be seen as an obvious serious strategic defeat if we were to just leave the gulf with Iran still closing the straits. Iran would be crowing that they defeated the great Satan. They’d keep the straits closed until other states pledged to help them rebuild their infrastructure and other things. Other states would do it just to curry favor with them. The regime would be hugely strengthened. Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait might even kick us out as a condition.

Several commentators have said we are watching us commit strategic suicide in slow motion. Yup. That’s exactly right. Unfortunately, that may be the least worst option.

But it may boil down to whether Hegseth is fired in the next week or two.

We're already doing that. We bombed a civilian bridge in the middle of the day during a public holiday, then double tapped with the explicit purpose of murdering civilian first responders, Putin-style. At least eight dead, dozens injured. It's only going to get worse. This is policy, not accident. We want the rest of the world to regard us as the Fourth Reich, the violent leading edge of Western aggressive power. Killing innocent people is sad, but necessary to achieve that goal.

Meanwhile a plane lost in Iran, US desperately trying to find pilot and co-pilot before Iran does, assuming they survived. If Iran finds them first...

Yup. We’ve been committing war crimes almost from the start of this administration. Strikes on suspected drug traffickers, numerous issues in Iran. Trump says he’s immune, but not hegseth and others.

Fuck me. One of the pilots has been rescued. If Iran captures the other pilot, then we are really fucked. Trump would not be able to walk away like he planned as they would continue to hold him. Can you imagine the fire storm of Trump abandoned him?

That means he has to bomb them until they agree to release him. Which won’t work.

Holy shit. These dumb ass motherfuckers have really fucked up now.

Trump would be in the spot as Hegseth: both are either immune or both are not.

This is why you don't dabble outside the rules of war. It meddles with the safety of your own people.

“They have no anti-aircraft equipment.” -- Hair Furor
Well, they don't have much. The US is flying much slower craft out there trying to rescue the pilots and they aren't getting shot down. Makes it sound like Iran got lucky or the jet malfunctioned.

Also... we're flying B-52s over Iran? To attack what?!

American bombers targeted Tehran on Monday night, Mr. Hegseth said, and Mr. Trump posted a video of massive explosions in Isfahan, a city in central Iran with about two million residents that has weapons production and nuclear facilities.
Well, at least Hegseth isn't flying them over in daytime.

How much is "don't have much?" All I have is Hair Furor saying it's all obliterated and a fighter plane shot down.

There was also this strike a few days ago:

After he had said they had taken out all their ballistic missiles.

Also, apparently, Iran is controlling the strait of Hormuz with a so-called "toll booth." How the hell can they enforce that if they have no navy?

If we do not know truly what is left, possibly being hidden to be used at opportune times, how do we know how long this will last?

I thought he was saying all the weapons production facilities and nuclear facilities were obliterated already, too.

Well, it is whatever is stopping Iran from taking down the slow moving planes looking for the pilots.

All they need is fear of mines and having rockets firing at ships from the shore.

That is the weird thing. What is left to be dropping munitions from B-52s? We are risking the lives of the people flying these things with every mission. The targets need to be worth it! Unless they Tomahawked sites and are are finishing them off with B-52s. But still, I'm having a hard time seeing the cost / risk v benefit here.

Well, that's a question the Supreme Court didn't really decide. They decided that the president was immune - a bullshit decision for sure. But they never said anyone in the executive branch is immune from engaging in illegal activities.

I believe that Hagsbreath would only be immune to criminal prosecution if Trump gave him a pardon.
