We'll keep trying until we get it right.... We've come a long way already: from apes to savages to barbarians to tribes to civilization. The global order is not far now.

Btw, I have just posted a thread on a new work of philosophy: New philosophy work on mood. (Note, Steve, that the author is currently living ;))

The above is all so sillly.

First, we ARE apes — and always will be.

Savages? Hunter-gatherer cultures were not “savages,” whatever that is supposed to mean exactly.

Barbarians were a variety of sophisticated ethno-cultures. The word “barbarian” was co-opted as a negative, a derogatory propagandistic slur against non-Greco Romans. It derives from the fact that the ancient Greeks denigrated those who did not speak their language as talking “bar, bar, bar.”

There have always been tribes. Tribes characterized hunter gatherers.

Civilization invented gods, hierarchies, income and social inequality, industrial-scale war, slavery, and every cruelty imaginable. It can be argued that civilization is not some kind of apex, but rather the nadir of human development. Now it bids fare to destroy the world through climate change or nuclear war.

The idea that there will be some universal behavior in which all will do, be, and act the same is ludicrous, confuted by every fact we know about history. Since the end of the Cold War the world has become even more fractured and Balkanized, including right here in the U.S., where we seem to be drifting toward a second Civil War.

^^^^^^^ I agree. The coming decades/centuries will see intensifying competition for water, oil, wood, a place to live that isn't scorched by the sun or flooded with ocean water. If you think the Syrian refugees caused upheaval and regressive political movements, just wait 'til the climate refugees are the big story. We are truly not going to see a golden age of selfless, agape-driven humanity. We won't be quoting Jesus -- it'll be "Fuck your feelings!"

There are many idealistic philosophies out there, including many who think we will accomplish world peace, but being the apes that we are, especially due to our patriarchal tendencies, I don't think that will ever happen. My ex was a fanatical Baha'i. HIs religion believed that the lesser world peace would be accomplished by the year 2000, followed by what they refer to as the "Most Great Peace". a. time when war would be ended forever and people would all get along for good. Plus the so called House of Universal Judgement would rule the world, or something like that. While it's a lovely idea to think humans will accomplish lasting world peace, it didn't happen in the year 2000 and sadly, I don't see how it ever will. It's not in our DNA.

The God of Love wants you to hate yourself and your entire family. Is this not … weird?

But love your neighbor!...
... as you love yourself.

Since according to the originally quoted passage you must hate yourself, then the logic follows that if you hate yourself, then loving your neighbor as you love yourself means you must hate your neighbor.

Your biologic reductionism is silly. As Morris Edward Opler puts it, "[h]uman history is the story of the diminishing importance of the body and the increasing importance of the superorganic or cultural." Even the humanist Lamont recognizes the reality of social progress, writing, "[w]e have already gone far since we appeared upon this planet, and during the brief episode—not more than 6,000 years—since what we call civilization came into existence."

There is a real atavastic tendency in contemporary atheism that I find fascinating.

Nice to see moments when both theists and atheists observe the world with similar illustrative thoughts. With all the events that occur within in it. Described from each of their observations there are some agreements to the direction the world seems to be going:
First, we ARE apes — and always will be.
The bible would agree with the idea.
As apes...

...'animals' can talk 😏

The bible agrees and highlights this...

...man alone can't do lasting world peace.

From the posts above, I'd be happy to say,:

We could all be ONE...
...quoting Jesus!
🙏🙂

Your biologic reductionism is silly.

Is it, now? Do you think the word “ape” is a pejorative, like the word “barbarian?” Neither is a pejorative, unless you choose to redefine the words to suit your own biases. Humans are taxonomically apes.
As Morris Edward Opler puts it, "[h]uman history is the story of the diminishing importance of the body and the increasing importance of the superorganic or cultural."

Superorganic? What is that? As to “cultural,” plenty of animals have cultures.
Even the humanist Lamont recognizes the reality of social progress, writing, "[w]e have already gone far since we appeared upon this planet, and during the brief episode—not more than 6,000 years—since what we call civilization came into existence."

Civilization, as noted above, brought us gods, hierarchies, income and social inequality, industrial-scale war, slavery, and every cruelty imaginable. Some progress,

You seem to have some teleological concept of evolution and culture. Evidence absent.
There is a real atavastic tendency in contemporary atheism that I find fascinating.

What atavistic tendency is that?

It is contemporary materialist monism that denies the existence of souls in humans or anywhere else. Hence its atavistic depiction of mankind as "feces flinging chimps."

The Bible contains the foundation for rational management of the biosphere. See some pertinent quotations here. Ultimately, the Bible proclaims the unity of God and nature. As Harry Waton puts it:

It requires the height and universality of philosophy to perceive that all existence lives, moves and has its being in thought and in reason. Everyone according to the degree that he attained to reason, to that extent does he perceive the rationality of existence. Existence is rational. But existence is the manifestation of God. God manifests himself as existence, God is existence, God is everything in existence, and God [is] everywhere. Not only all realities and processes in existence live, move and have their being in God, but also God lives, moves and has his being in all realities and processes in existence. Just as the whole sun reflects itself in a drop of water, so God reflects himself in every reality, be it infinitely great or infinitesimally small. Once and for all, we must emancipate ourselves from the superstition that God is separate and above from the world; we must discard the notion that God created the world, then retired into his holy abode, and left the world to take care of itself. God did not create the world, God is the world, and God is eternally and infinitely in the world. If God should for an instant separate himself from the world, the world would at once cease to exist. God not only became the world, but God eternally and infinitely continues to be the world. We do not have to fly on the wings of thought to find God, just as we do not have to fly on the wings of thought to find space. God is everywhere and is everything.

There is no great and no small To the soul that maketh all; And where it cometh, all things are, And it cometh every where. Emerson.

Nah, we are drone- and bomb-flinging chimps. And yes, we are chimps.
The Bible contains the foundation for rational management of the biosphere.

You can’t make this shit up.

Here is one of the biblical quotations from the link that No Robots gave:

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” – Matthew 6:26

Nah, they feed themselves. God doesn’t give a crap about them, unless one simply redefines “god” as “nature,” and even then, nature does not give a crap about them. It’s sink or swim or, I guess wrt birds, fly or fall. Of course, sometimes I feed my pigeon friends in the park, and they all know who I am.

Are we not much more valuable than they?

No, we are not. Maybe even less valuable, when you get right down to it. Birds don’t destroy the world through global warming and don’t build nukes.

Christ on earth was a man, a lamb...and a spirit, as irony would have it.😊

Religion, philosophy(ethics and morality) are thin veneers over who we are.

What other creature on earth acts upon it's ethics and morality? These traits being obvious in humans are far more than veneers.

You are who you are by the state of your emotional psyche: ethics and morality!!!

Screeching feces flinging chimps with nuclear weapons.
Flinging poop at people would be more preferable to still exist than flinging atomic bombs. It all depends on who we are...
in terms of ethics and morality.
Amen.

Arguments and evidence needed for all of the above.

Spirit.
When I was young RCC used the term "Holy Ghost".
Spirit is from the Greek for breath. No breath no spirit, you are dead.
All the other meanings are just more made-up crap.
Like the Devil and Hell.

Yes. I just decided to spell it out lest there by any confusion. The endlessly contradictory passages of the bible by themselves disprove any kind of divine authorship or inspiration.
