2026 Mid-Term Elections

You are only objecting because previously the identity politics included your demographic
I wasn't even born then.
Now it’s opened up.
Biden not even considering anybody but black women is the opposite of "opened up".
All the best things are not owed to white mem because they are white men.
Neither are they owed to black women because they are black women.

But let's end this derail. I merely provided KBJ as an example of Biden being extremely pro-black, and that therefore opposition to him by some black students was strange.

Let's get back to discussing the Midterms.

Yes. Saying that there must be two black SCOTUS justices (and not considering anybody not black and female for the seat) means that 22% of the Court is guaranteed to be black which is more than black share in the population.
I think the narrative will be that when the time comes both Thomas and KBJ should only be replaced with other black justices. The pressure will be especially high if the president at the time is a Democrat.
So I suppose we get to the real issue you have here. Where in the world were your threads whining about all of the white nominations when white people are grossly hyper-represented on the Supreme Court?
White people are not grossly hyperrepresented on the Court. Where do you get that idea?
. You should note that JH said “when”.
If Hispanics are counted as not white, the US is snout 56% white now. Up until 2009, there was at most one justice of color. After 2010, there were 3 justices of color. It took until 2022 to reach 4 which made SCOTUS 55% white

So depending on what one means by “grossly hyperrepresented”, it is either up to 2009 or 2010 or 2022.

Next Tuesday we have Wisonsin. Francesca Hong of the DSA is the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. She is a LWNJ.
This is what she tweeted back in 2020.

And now she is campaigning with the pro-Hamas Islamist Hasan Piker and with Ilhan Omar.

I said it before but it bears repeating. DNC should never have allowed DSA politicians to run for Democratic nomination.

Considering it took over 100 years to get one Black person elected to Congress and it took until 1967 to get one Black person put on SCOTUS, it's past time to have more Black folks on the courts and in Congress. Plus, it's past time for white men to stop whining about being discriminated against. Poor poor pitiful white guys who have controlled the country since its origin. One Black president and 3 Black members of SCOTUS. I haven't even mentioned that the first women elected to Congress was around 1920.

This the worst you can find? It is a bit missing the point of the original Thanksgiving where a bunch of religious separatist radicals bound themselves with the Wampanoag who had saved their lives.

Oddly enough, I think the super spreader event was more back in 1607 or 1615 (don't feel like looking it up) when Cape Cod (back then part of mainland America) was discovered by Europeans. Squanto could communicate in English, thanks to being captured and taken to England. He made his way back and was there when the Pilgrims made with their best attempt at mass suicide in their first winter at Plimoth. I believe once the Pilgrims were there, the damage had already been done.

That Thanksgiving today is a four-day weekend meant to boost the national economy would be a bigger reason to toss it aside, because the original was two remarkably different groups of people that had little else in common than a shared sense of human decency and found common ground. It is the America we like to remember. What would come later with the Native Americans wouldn't be quite so memorable (in a good way).

The Republican Party should never have allowed a fascist to run for Congress or for president, or a person with obvious signs of dementia.

The members of the DSA are not the danger that the members of the current Republi party are!

I learned a new woke word today...from Francesca Hong. Folx. Thought it was a typo, but no. It's real. Think "Latinx".

I don't think this one is catching on with the public, though. Thankfully. And what's up with Indegenous? Did she mean Indigenous? Seems to me if you're going to get up on a soapbox to express your support for some group, it would behoove you to at least spell their name right.

Their name? Indigenous is a status not an identity. Of the issues in her statement, those seem the more trite to complain about.

On the matter of something trite to complain about...

The name of the group she is defending is colloquially known as "Indigenous People". Not "Indegenous folx". I suspect the average Indigenous person reading her tweet would say, "Cancel Thanksgiving? WTF? Me and my family love our time together at Thanksgiving!" Not to mention their bafflement and dismissal of some progressive rando unilaterally using the obscure term "folx" to describe them.

Sure, complaining about "Cancel Thanksgiving" is the bigger fish here, but that notion is so patently absurd from all angles that its up there with the babble coming from a tin foil hat wearing homeless guy. That is, you just sort of listen for a couple of seconds, say "Ooooookay" and quickly move on.

Her comment is ignorant. It is historically dubious. There are certainly points that could be made, but she completely botches them all. It is discomforting to see the dumbening of some left-wing politicians. However, as a reminder, she is running for Governor of Wisconsin... not the sitting Secretary of HHS looking to fucking up vaccine schedules in the United States because of something that isn't true. If this is the worst Derec can dredge up, those in Wisconsin are likely safe, however.

It does feel like the US is following Britain's trajectory in stupid governance.

The whataboutism here is like shooting fish in a barrel, so I'll just move along and find another post requiring a more challenging retort.

According to Derec, she made the post 6 years ago and there's no mention of context.
I don't live there so I don't care enough to investigate and won't be drawing any conclusions.

This kind of commentary is too easy. It's an unproductive practice in Whataboutism. The DNC needs to take a hard look at itself and come up useful solutions as to why they lost to Trump twice. We know what the GOP and Trump are and have known it for decades. IMO, it's a settled issue.

The current crop of socialists in the Democratic Party are going to make not just easy, but convincing targets come 2028. I think the effect in the midterms won't be as bad due to them being regional elections, but when it comes time for the POTUS election (and therefore SCOTUS), these people are going to come back to take a big chunk out of the Dems collective ass.

It appears right now that Dems leadership is finally pushing back against the socialists who have attached themselves like leeches to a party they have no business being in. Unfortunately, it may be too late.

Good to know. We were all waiting with baited breath for your analysis.

Is there any evidence the Dem Establishment have supported any of the DSA or far-left candidates? Right now the Democrat Party has weak internal leadership. I don't think anyone knows what to do at the moment. Howard Dean helped get the super majority in 2006. But at the moment, it is hard to know what the voting base is going for.

Eric Cantor's loss in 2014 was the virus infection taking root in the GOP, i.e. the internal revolution by the Fox News base. The Democrats aren't quite there yet with the far left, and there isn't a huge media circus trying to make that happen either. But these populist movements can occur when a large enough minority can outweigh the majority. Like how Trump did in in 2016.

So we'll see how the primary finishes up. Wong has said some dumb things, might have dumb positions. The GOP front runner thinks the 2020 election was stolen. He voted to object to Biden electors on January 6th. That was a bid to steal an election. So yeah, cancel T-day is dumb, at least for the reason Wong provides. But lets look at the competition. Looks like someone who is part of a movement that might become a threat to democracy down the road verses someone who actually voted to steal an election.

Just curious ... for those arguing for representation on the SCOTUS, what do you think of Clarence Thomas?
Are you looking about comments on race, him being compensated to keep his butt on the bench, or his hyper originalist, when it suits him, attitude towards constitutional law?

Does he count as minority representation?
According to Derec, Thomas is the maximum allowed for African Americans on the bench before reaching hyper-representation (his term, not mine), until he (Thomas not Derec) retires (which would presumably be soon unless they (he and Alito) feel the Senate is safe).

I'm not certain anyone would suggest Thomas isn't black. The question in the thread was regarding how much sleep should have been lost over Biden and his statements on black woman to be nominated to the SCOTUS bench.
