2026 Mid-Term Elections

According to Derec, Thomas is the maximum allowed for African Americans on the bench before reaching hyper-representation (his term, not mine), until he (Thomas not Derec) retires (which would presumably be soon unless they (he and Alito) feel the Senate is safe).

I'm not certain anyone would suggest Thomas isn't black. The question in the thread was regarding how much sleep should have been lost over Biden and his statements on black woman to be nominated to the SCOTUS bench.
You tell me what you think Derec would say. What do you think about the idea that he counts as minority representation?

On the matter of something trite to complain about...

The name of the group she is defending is colloquially known as "Indigenous People". Not "Indegenous folx". I suspect the average Indigenous person reading her tweet would say, "Cancel Thanksgiving? WTF? Me and my family love our time together at Thanksgiving!" Not to mention their bafflement and dismissal of some progressive rando unilaterally using the obscure term "folx" to describe them.

Sure, complaining about "Cancel Thanksgiving" is the bigger fish here, but that notion is so patently absurd from all angles that its up there with the babble coming from a tin foil hat wearing homeless guy. That is, you just sort of listen for a couple of seconds, say "Ooooookay" and quickly move on.
As long as we are quibbling, "tinfoil"?

Is there any evidence the Dem Establishment have supported any of the DSA or far-left candidates? Right now the Democrat Party has weak internal leadership. I don't think anyone knows what to do at the moment. Howard Dean helped get the super majority in 2006. But at the moment, it is hard to know what the voting base is going for.

Eric Cantor's loss in 2014 was the virus infection taking root in the GOP, i.e. the internal revolution by the Fox News base. The Democrats aren't quite there yet with the far left, and there isn't a huge media circus trying to make that happen either. But these populist movements can occur when a large enough minority can outweigh the majority. Like how Trump did in in 2016.

So we'll see how the primary finishes up. Wong has said some dumb things, might have dumb positions. The GOP front runner thinks the 2020 election was stolen. He voted to object to Biden electors on January 6th. That was a bid to steal an election. So yeah, cancel T-day is dumb, at least for the reason Wong provides. But lets look at the competition. Looks like someone who is part of a movement that might become a threat to democracy down the road verses someone who actually voted to steal an election.
An election denier, like any hardcore Trump supporter, is hopeless; utterly immune to reason and with little sense of moral consistency.
I know the election wasn't stolen. You know it too. So does any person who doesn't need surgery to remove their head from their ass.

To me, the issue is about winning votes from people whose votes can be won while at the same time not driving away votes from people who hear shit like "Seizing the means of production" and end up voting Republican, third party, or staying home.

From what I've read, plenty of establishment Dems want those voices gone, but don't want a public fiasco over it. I understand that, but the party needs to exorcise those voices even if it causes an image problem for a while. The 2028 election is still over two years away, which is on a geological timescale in politics. IOW, it's enough time to have the fight aired in public and recover. If those voices are tolerated and even embraced by some, then we're ceding victory to the GOP.

Finally, and as an aside, liberals may despise JD Vance, but he's well spoken and carries the air of a legitimate statesman. Assuming he becomes the GOP candidate, he'll absolutely walk over whomever the Dem's field with the artillery the Mamdani crowd is giving him on an industrial scale.

This is ignoring that people are individuals
Says the guy who has no problem with how illegal immigrants are treated.

This is really needed to be watched. AIPAC and other political action committees are targeting Dem candidates. But not for their position on Israel but for half assed lies. For example, saying a candidate is in the hands of Wall Street when in actuality his only connection to WS is a 401K with 11 thousand dollars in it.

Much more bullshit in the link.

And lumps all Muslims together as one.
Bullshit!

I do not think they are all the same. But the Muslims that are so disproportionally overrepresented among DSA cadres are rabidly anti-Israel and it is certainly reasonably to conclude that their religion plays a role why they developed that hatred.

Some of the DSA (and DSA adjacent) Muslims are also Islamists. Take the Great Muslim Hope in Michigan, El-Sayed. He spoke an an Islamist conference where there were a number of openly pro-Hamas speakers. And while he is attacking AIPAC funding, he is happy to take money from CAIR and Muslim Brotherhood affiliated sources.
Then we have Adam Hamawy, the Democratic nominee for Congress for NJ-12 (he "won" the primary with <30% of the vote). He was an associate of the terrorist Omar Abdel-Rahman, the Blind Sheikh, and he even testified on his behalf at his trial.
Avila Chevalier is a convert to Islam who supports Hamas and is now dating an Islamist and Al Qaeda lawyer Ramzi Kassem. She is the Democratic nominee for the NY-13 district.

So no, not all Muslims are the same. But the Democratic Party has allowed some very toxic ones to infiltrate it and get themselves nominated. Dismissing any criticism of Islam and Islamic politicians is not going to help with this trend.

Says the guy who has no problem with how illegal immigrants are treated.
Says who? I have lot of problems with how Trump has implemented his immigration policies, esp. lack of professionalism by ICE.
But one of the reasons Trump prevailed over Kamala is that the Biden administration completely failed to control the border. And you also have the mess of so-called "sanctuary" cities and states which protect even criminal illegals from deportation.

You are completely ignoring the context, which is about Biden not considering anybody except a black woman for the seat. He also de facto sold that seat in order to buy Jim Clyburn's support. That's even worse than what Rod Blagojevich has done.

This is what some people here are still defending. Do you think Biden did the right thing here?

Is there any evidence the Dem Establishment have supported any of the DSA or far-left candidates?
They tend to support them after they win their primaries.

GOP candidates being toxic should be a reason to have good candidates on the Democratic side as an alternative. Not to accept toxic candidates too.

Considering it took over 100 years to get one Black person elected to Congress and it took until 1967 to get one Black person put on SCOTUS, it's past time to have more Black folks on the courts and in Congress.
So because there were few black people in the past, there should be disproportionally many now as some sort of racial payback?
Plus, it's past time for white men to stop whining about being discriminated against.
Nobody should be discriminated against on account of their race or sex. But many on the Left don't care (or even worse, actively support) white men being targets of discrimination.
Poor poor pitiful white guys who have controlled the country since its origin.
Just like some others on here, you are treating "white guys" as interchangeable ciphers and not as individuals.
The white guys who controlled the country in the past are not the same as white guys today. The white guys who controlled the country in the past are not even the ancestors of many white guys today.
Discriminating against the latter because of the sins of the former is not fixing any injustice, it's adding new injustice on top of the old.
But of course, it is an article of faith within Leftist milieu that discriminating against white guys is not only acceptable, but laudable.
One Black president and 3 Black members of SCOTUS. I haven't even mentioned that the first women elected to Congress was around 1920.
That was a 100 years ago. That's quite a long grudge to hold.

This the worst you can find?
Maybe not the worst, but probably the most ridiculous.
This is also pretty bad:

Hong is your typical leftist idiot. Note that Jacob Blake was armed with a knife, and that the SUV he tried to get into wasn't his and that the he did not have custody of the children in the back of it. Moreover, he had an arrest warrant. The shooting turned out to be justified.

Is this really who you think should represent Democrats in the general election? There are really no better people on the WI Democratic bench?

The Republican Party should never have allowed a fascist to run for Congress or for president, or a person with obvious signs of dementia.
Two wrongs don't make a right, your whataboutism aside.
The members of the DSA are not the danger that the members of the current Republi party are!
Of course they are.

According to Derec, she made the post 6 years ago and there's no mention of context.
I don't live there so I don't care enough to investigate and won't be drawing any conclusions.
Tom
The context it that it was shortly before Thanksgiving. And it was 2020, when a lot of idiotic ideas were very much en vogue among the movement Leftists. And she seems to have embraced them all.

These days she is campaigning with the Islamist tankie Hasan Piker. Which is just more evidence of her lack of judgment.

That is what makes them tyrants. A tyrant against a person with some dumb views.

That is false. The Democrats need liberals and far-left liberals to vote and the Democrats need moderates to vote! So this means more left-wing people in areas that manage it and less liberal candidates in areas that can't handle it. The Democrats need liberals to feel like their vote matters, they need them to turnout. It'd likely be better that the Democrats get the far-left to fight for is Social Security and Medicare instead of the more out there things that won't ever happen anyway. But the Democrats are like cats, as the saying goes.

No he doesn't. The dude is less principled than Bill Clinton, with one trillionth the charisma. The one thing I know about the 2028 election, which might be the only thing I know, is that frontrunners two years before hand, rarely become the nominee. Regarding Mamdani, Gore, Kerry, Obama, Biden were sequentially the most liberal Democrat in the history of Democrats in the General Election ads. So while the GOP will try to go with the anti-communism line, that actually isn't anything new.

And in any case, 2028 is so far out, it is impossible to know what will happen. Trump could be the GOP candidate for all we know or the globe is in a depression because Trump broke global trade. We still aren't certain how the economy is playing in November 2026.

She certainly isn't the first pick. The GOP opponent is even worse... and voted in Congress on January 6th to steal an election.

So again, Hobson Choice. The thing about a Hong Governorship is that it can be a single term, if she gets too silly, she can be primaried, but that also helps reshift the Democrats a bit to the left from the right-leaning moderate position. If she is elected, I doubt she is 'defunding the police'.

Trump doesn't even have charisma. The dude just rambles, but people sure do like the rambling.
