2026 Mid-Term Elections

The Republican running in the Senate race here has been claiming in his commercials that, during his time with the FBI, he worked on getting Osama Bin Laden captured. A total fabrication.
I thought the FBI was a solely domestic institution. So how does that work?
The 9/11 attack was in the US, so the FBI had some involvement in the investigation. Regarding getting bin Laden captured... he wasn't as much captured as he was... well, we'll find out in 75 years when the records are unsealed. Regardless, it is quite possible the guy running for Senate did something that involved bin Laden. It took the US Government so long to find him, it isn't like you could just find the guy.

Here is a quote of what he said in the commercial:
After serving in the Army, I became a street agent in the FBI. I worked for years to help bring Osama Bin Laden to justice.

OTTAWA (The Borowitz Report)—Calling it an effort to “restore sanity,” on Thursday Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney offered every adult American $6000 to vote against Republicans in the midterms.

“If you oust the Republicans, you’ll receive a check for $6000,” he said at a press conference. “And to be clear, we’re talking American dollars, not Canadian.”

The prime minister’s announcement seemed unlikely to make Donald Trump increase his own offer, since $5000 would be the most he has ever paid to a non-pornstar.

Carney concluded his press conference by unveiling a new map of North America with the United States renamed “South Canada.”

What happens if some yanks, say a few million, decide to take Carney up on the offer? Does Canada have the money?

How do they check that any claims are indeed valid? Photo of the voting slip?

One of those ideas that sounds good when thought of and said but the next day comes realisation of what it might mean.

Dude. Borowitz Report.

Dude. Borowitz Report.
I am not familiar with the Borowitz Report. I thought is was legitimate

Struggled with getting this was made up?

On mail in ballots,
Dickhead said:
"This Supreme Court is bullied and cajoled by the Radical Left into making decisions that have set America back at least ‌a hundred years.”

"These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court, they are merely a shell of their original selves," he continued on Truth Social. "It is a Court that will go down as having rendered some of the most destructive, hurtful, and damaging decisions in our Country’s history."

Despite being in OZ one thing I have learned is that any claim made against Trump could possible be true.

Loving the political ads that are raking my eyes while watching CBC or Reuters in the morning. In back to back ads, and I'm not making this up... Sherrod Brown is going to fall in line with the Socialists of the Party.... and in the very next ad, give your hard earned tax dollars to Big Banks. The ads are bad enough as it is, been seeing them since June or July. But the Socialist/Big Banks thing is just too much to manage without having the brain explode.

He's right. But NOT THIS TIME.

This doesn't sound suss at all;

In his newsletter, Carlson wrote that El-Sayed is "obviously right" in his stance, adding that there is "nothing remotely crazy" about the remarks.

"El-Sayed did not celebrate airplane hijackings or cheerlead Al-Qaeda; he simply said that the U.S. conducting terrorism of its own in response to 9/11 was not exactly an appropriate reaction," Carlson said.

I call bullshit on Carlson's intentions.

Polls for US senate are getting crazy. Emerson shows the Democrat technically ahead 45 - 43 in Kansas. A Florida poll shows a draw, after another poll showed a healthy but less than 10 point lead for the Republican. Turned ruby red Iowa, keeps spitting out close polls (though Iowa does that on occasion and then it isn't that close). Last Tuesday showed Graham up only 5 points in South Carolina.

The ceiling at one point was 49 or 50 for the Democrats. It then became 52. It now appears to be 56. No, I am not saying the Democrats will win 56 seats in the Senate (including caucus buddies). Rather, at the moment, a poll is showing things possibly becoming tighter, more broadly. Sadly, most of the polls have way too many 5 to 10% undecided, which is typically greater than the margins in the polls, making them impossible to cast as solid evidence, but unless the polling is completely messing up, the GOP might be dropping bricks at the moment. And it would be because of Kansas and Nebraska. Because they are indications that the gerrymandering might not be enough to avoid a major wave.

The major problem the GOP are facing is that while gasoline is expensive, diesel is... what is the technical term... "fucking expensive". And that impacts farming... and farming is a territory that is generally very red. But at the moment, when you are paying over $6 a gallon for diesel (farming equipment uses much more fuel that the average commuting car), it immediately hits the bottom line. This isn't like trading crops, where maybe things get better later and you can sell where you want to, this is costing farmers immediately. And for farmers in the Central Plain states, Iran was never that high on their priority list. So saying won't get a nuclear weapon (something that hasn't actually be achieved in any form yet), isn't going to make people in Nebraska and Kansas bite.

The GOP can warn about socialism and "forced child sex change" operations all they want, gasoline is something people buy weekly, and when Trump says the prices will go down later, he is committing a dangerous political error. Again, this could pivot instantly, but at the moment, if the Democrats are actually polling decently to in theory get up to 56 seats in the Senate, the House could be in major trouble, despite gerrymandering. Everyone pays for gasoline, blue and red counties.

Disconnects between voter preferences and facts on the ground, are where Republicans store their power.

Assuming he's planned to leave office after this term, he had nothing to lose, everything to gain, and it doesn't matter if the empty buckets that voted for him are mad now. Trump has grifted billions for himself and his family, and he is not just apathetic towards the average American, he holds us in contempt. There will be no consequences for him knowingly lying and besides, no matter what he does, he will have tens of millions of fans until well after he's dead.

Florida showing a tie is crazy given how bad the "Democratic" (really DSA) candidate is. Angie Nixon said that she doesn't want to pay taxes nor pay back student loans despite her six figure income.
‘I Don't Wanna Pay It Back’: Socialist Senate Nominee Angie Nixon Says It's ‘Crazy’ She Has To Pay Her Taxes And Student Loans

But than again, I never heard of "St. Pete Polls", so it's probably an outlier.

The major problem the GOP are facing is that while gasoline is expensive, diesel is... what is the technical term... "fucking expensive".
One reason why diesel is disproportionally hit might be the popularity of large trucks, many of them diesels. And many of them are also bought by people who have no real need for such large vehicles.

States trying to shift to a "pay per mile" model of taxation will make these behemoths even more attractive. Instead, they should be taxed far more unfavorably, not more favorably. Heavy trucks tear up the pavement far more than cars (the relationship is more than linear, perhaps even 4th power of axle load) and should pay their fair share for it. But I never see Dems advocating for something like this.
So saying won't get a nuclear weapon (something that hasn't actually be achieved in any form yet), isn't going to make people in Nebraska and Kansas bite.
Once they achieve the nuclear weapon it will be far too late.

It is actually good for the climate if fossil fuels are more expensive. Ideally, this should be done by implementing a carbon tax, not by constraining supply.
But it is still ironic that Dems who not so long ago supported shutting down most domestic oil and natural gas production are crying about cheap gasoline and diesel now.
