How should west respond to Russian invasion of Ukraine?

So yes, we do have free speech and a free press.
Not as free as you think.
Last time I checked RT was banned in US.
It was never banned. It went broke and couldn't pay it's bills.
It was banned.
Okay, I'll type slowly. I know they came home crying about how big ole mean Murica took their lunch money and broke their glasses, but that's not what happened. Over here, a media company has to pay rent, utilities and payroll. The money for this comes from advertising and subscriptions.
With me, so far?
It turned out all the thousands of Westerners who would watch RT already immigrated to Russia. No subscribers and nobody to see the ads, so RT was short of cash.
Naturally, they call up Putin and ask for help. Putin starts talking about a Russian priest in the middle ages who invented toenail fungus. They are confused, but listen patiently. Eventually Putin hangs up.
They call back and Lavrov Propaganskl answers. He says, "I've got a guy named Barbos who does a better job for much less money. Why do I need you?" Then he hangs up.
So, never banned, just abandoned by their handlers.
I hope this clears things up for you.
RT was banned on TV and more importantly it was banned on Youtube.
It was outright banned in UK.

RT is still available on the 'net. not blocked in the US.
It was banned on Youtube. Website itself is banned in EU.
But I have to check. I mean everything was banned in EU in 2022

AI Overview
Yes, RT (formerly Russia Today) is banned across the European Union.
Council, European Union

The West have an appearance of free speech. I mean you allow it when it is safe for regime to allow. And you find the way to effectively ban it when it causes problem for the regime. That's what happened in UK with RT when they showed that BBC staged the chemical attack in Syria.

Meanwhile, shooting near recently discovered secret TTsK prison in Kiev. One man is shot by unidetified group of people who started attacking protesters against TTsK.
It turned out that the building was used by Azov to hold deserters for ransom by relatives. If relatives had no money they were killed. 14 people were there, all were tortured/beaten, one with broken spine, another with gangrene.

Youtube also harrass Ukrainian opposition personalities Panchenko for example.
She had a channel with a lot of subscriber, and YT deleted it, but allowed to create new one.

You don't understand how it works in the US. Sanctions made it impossible for Russia to subsidize RT and it was not a viable business without it and had to close up shop. YouTube is a private business and has the full control over who uses their service.

Don't cry for RT. It just makes your work more important. Maybe you should ask for a raise.

It is you who do not understand that I understand better than you.
As I said, when it becomes problematic The West finds the way to ban free speech.
That's what UK did and what US did.

I am fully aware of that. That's a loophole which allows US government to ban individuals such as Panchenko on Youtube.
Same story with survelance. CIA cannot spy on US citizens, so they ask UK to do that for them.
Russia on the other hand care less about appearance. And simply bans all people who receive money from abroad from criticizing Russia anywhere. Plus they prosecute people for spreading lies about Russian Army.
EU can not sanction their own citizens, so they have some freedom of speech but non-eu citizens such as Switzerland are being sanctioned and banned in EU.
