'Merica: YOU ARE SO GAY!

Only in the way that people who hate blacks are different from people who hate Asians. Bigotry is bigotry and it all comes from the same place.

Yes, everybody that disagrees with the new orthodoxy is a bigot.

No, people who have bigoted positions are bigots. It's irrelevant whether those positions agree or disagree with any kind of orthodoxy.

Casey Davis, the Casey County Clerk, says his conscience will not allow him to issue a same-sex marriage license. Because of that, he has stopped issuing marriage licenses altogether...

Davis says he will not resign and, in fact, he'd rather go to jail.

There is another clerk that chose to retire rather than issue marriage licenses to gay couples. I think she is a bigoted hiding behind her religion, but at least she chose to quit which only affects herself. This jackass, Casey Davis, otoh, has quit issuing any marriage licenses at all, thereby adversely affecting everyone in his county. He refuses to quit because apparently his conscience says he shouldn't. He insists he isn't pushing his beliefs on others, and is too stupid to see the hypocrisy of his position.

People like this just boggle my mind. And he has the right to vote! :picardfacepalm:
They know what Jesus knows, that marriage is equal to one penis and one vagina. Or something like that.

Penis + Vagina = Marriage

But the Supremes said Penis + Penis = Marriage

Also that Vagina + Vagina = Marriage

Silly Supremes. They just don't know what Jesus knows.

"bigot", it has become a tedious incantation on here.
Well, that's a really good explanation of your position, and a clear remonstration against everyone trying to classify your position as bigoted.
I hope mojorising is reading this thread and seeing how it's possible to actually argue his position rationally, rather than blame the silence of the majority, who he feels agree with him but fear being labeled bigot or homophobe by people who don't understand the actual issues or positions involved in the discussion. Also, hope mojo learns how to defend his stance without pretending that it's actually everyone else's problem, not his.
Given the opportunity to explain and defend your stance, TJ, you really rise to the occasion.

County Clerk in Hood, Texas won't do the same either. She was just recently elected too. She refuses to quit, refused to issue marriage licenses and she says she got HUGE support for her stance...but she has backed down and will let others do it. But she is very public in saying she doesn't like SSM marriage because of her religion.

Well, if people would stop advocating bigotted positions, we'd stop talking about how bigotted their positions are. It's like how if you're bored of people calling you a theif, you can help the situation by not stealing so much stuff.

How about instead of "bigot", we use the term, "person who fails to understand that his/her position is stupid but is too ignorant to know that their ideas are based upon emotion and not facts?"

No, it actually is. There will be one of those sidebars in the electronic history textbooks of 2075 that says "Isn't it weird that some people in 2015 didn't think homosexuals should be able to marry the persons they love? For a list of the shitty arguments they would make to defend their bigotry, see footnotes 337-349 because none of them deserve to be mentioned in the main text. This will not be on the exam because it's better if everybody just forgets about such people."

I'm confused... the "New Orthodoxy" essentially decides "This type of bigotry is no longer acceptable." So you are pointing out that people who DISAGREE with this declaration are themselves bigots.

Are you complaining that this is a bad thing? Or are you complaining that people now have to accept the New Orthodoxy in order to remain relevant? Or are you not complaining at all and just making a prediction for the future which is probably pretty close to the truth?

Not complaining at all, it's a great thing. I was just explaining to TSwizzle how the future is likely to treat him and people like him.

I thought that whole 'render unto Caesar' thing meant that Jesus' ministry was discrete from any political activity in this world?

You have a secular job for Caesar, and obey Caesar's laws, and issue Caesar's required forms...where does your religion come into it? Esp. if Caesar's law says not to bring your religion to work.

That's one of the passages of the Bible which was only meant figuratively.

Or in accordance with the ORGASM, Jesus might have been joking as we don't know the tone of voice he used.

Or, IAW Lumpenproletariat, there's no actual evidence that Jesus ever really said that, unlike the evidence for the Healing Miracles that prove he was God...

Like "love they neighbor"?

Like "love they neighbor"?
Or love thy enemy.

A literalist would read
38"You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.' 39"But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40"If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also
...and then vote against a Stand Your Ground law.

But that passage is only meant literally.

Ooh, finding out Libertarians were there long before the progressives is really rustling many sets of jimmies.
Actually, all we have found out is that, once again, you have made an observably false claim and then continued to literally pull hilariously false diagnoses out of the air.

All I did was point out that it was in the party's platform ever since the party was founded in 1971, and our first presidential candidate in 1972 ran on that platform. Of course, that claim is observably false since it is actually in the platform.

In 1971. Which is before the decade of the aughts, when Obama and Hillary spoke out against gay marriage.

So the libertarian party platform is representative of libertarian thought and belief?

No, Jason. You tried to make it seem as if libertarians did all the heavy lifting when it came to gay rights.

Democrats have been working towards this for a decade, and Libertarians have been working towards this for four decades. Thank you for finally catching up with us and helping it pass.

Working. Not just having it as a part of the party platform, but taking action and spearheading the fight for gay marriage since 1971! But maybe I'm taking this one quote out of context, and what you're really saying is that libertarians just supported the idea of gay rights.

Oh, wait...

Well, we did do all the ground-work, all the preparations, etc. And once the tide finally turned, it was nice of you to jump on the bandwagon and loudly tell everyone that you were actually steering it.

Yep. That's what you're claiming. All the work. Nobody else can claim as much credit as libertarians, because libertarians did everything. In your fantasy land, it was libertarians who did all the heavy lifting and then the gay rights activists got involved. Had it not been for libertarians working so hard, the very concept of gay rights never would have arisen. There would be no gay rights activists without you, no pride parades, no rainbow flags, no AIDS quilt (or treatment for HIV for that matter), no positive gay characters on TV and in the movies, no companies offering domestic partner benefits, and finally, no gay marriage. The gays themselves were just sitting around waiting for someone to come in an help them, and the stalwart libertarians swooped in with their dozens of followers and dragged the rest of the country kicking and screaming towards equality for LGBT people.

Next thing you'll be telling me is that you personally coined the acronym LGBT!

:rolleyesa:
