Right behind you so ... BOO!
Basic Beliefs
non-theist, anarcho-socialist
This is the guy who won the GOP Iowa Caucus.

Anyone who has watched [Ted] Cruz on the stump knows that he often references the important role that his father, traveling evangelist Rafael Cruz, has played in his life. During a 2012 sermon at New Beginnings Church in Bedford, Texas, Rafael Cruz described his son’s political campaign as a direct fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

The elder Cruz told the congregation that God would anoint Christian “kings” to preside over an “end-time transfer of wealth” from the wicked to the righteous. After this sermon, Larry Huch, the pastor of New Beginnings, claimed Cruz’s recent election to the U.S. Senate was a sign that he was one of these kings.

According to his father and Huch, Ted Cruz is anointed by God to help Christians in their effort to “go to the marketplace and occupy the land … and take dominion” over it. This “end-time transfer of wealth” will relieve Christians of all financial woes, allowing true believers to ascend to a position of political and cultural power in which they can build a Christian civilization. When this Christian nation is in place (or back in place), Jesus will return.

Rafael Cruz and Larry Huch preach a brand of evangelical theology called Seven Mountains Dominionism. They believe Christians must take dominion over seven aspects of culture: family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business and government. The name of the movement comes from Isaiah 2:2: “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains.”

Barton’s Christian nationalism is a product of this theological approach to culture. Back in 2011, Barton said that if Christians were going to successfully “take the culture” they would need to control these seven areas. “If you can have those seven areas,” Barton told his listeners to his radio show, “you can shape and control whatever takes place in nations, continents and even the world.”

Seven Mountains Dominionism is the spiritual fuel that motors Cruz’s campaign for president.

This man is a serious contender for the GOP nomination for POTUS. Is this what we want? End Times Prophesy as Public Policy?

Annndddddd......

You know that “TrusTed” logo? The one with TRUS and TED merged, yet separated via different colors?
Turns out that when you Google “TRUS”, the logo at once becomes hilarious and hilariously appropriate:
"A transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) is an ultrasound technique that is used to view a man's prostate and surrounding tissues.

Scarier than his end times fantasies, is his rubbing elbows with some other crazy preachers as I pointed out in a recent thread (http://talkfreethought.org/showthread.php?7376-Carnival-(Ted)-Cruz-game-plan) on Ted.

Really, a death penalty for living a homosexual life? I wonder how those could play out in attack adds this fall, if Cruz is the Repug nominee. I wonder what the Repugs and independents would think if Bernie hung out with people who advocated forcing Churches to close?

Last Fall, Cruz appeared in Iowa alongside a pastor who has called for the government to use the death penalty to punish homosexuality. Not stung from the criticism he received for courting the radical pastor, Kevin Swanson, Cruz he later released a statement touting the support of an anti-abortion extremist, Troy Newman, who has said that a just government would punish abortion providers with death. Again facing criticism, Cruz doubled down and appointed Newman co-chair of his “pro-life coalition.

I would think that Jewish people would be more than a little disturbed with Cruz cuddling up with "preacher" Bickle who think Hitler was raised to punish the Jews (from the same linky):
Most recently, Cruz welcomed the endorsement of Mike Bickle, the leader of a church that many have criticized for using cult-like practices, who has referred to Oprah Winfrey as a harbinger of the Antichrist, called gay rights as a Satanic plot that will usher in the End Times, and explained that Adolf Hitler was raised up by God to be a “hunter” of Jews.

To think, President Carter is an Evangelical. Seems like like the term is void of much meaning these days and goes from Religious Dogooder to Religious Zealot imprisoned within the confines of the Constitution.

It just shows that what goes around, comes around.

We spent the past eight years listening to paranoid ravings about the influences of Jeremiah Wright. It's only right that Ted Cruz, the Canadian born candidate, should bring his own religious scandal with him.

Cruz is a religious fundamentalist.

No different from the Taliban except he doesn't have the power to do the things he would like to do.

Which may help explain his New Hampshire dead cat bounce in the polls after his win in Iowa. New Hampshire is rated by the latest Gallup poll as the least religious state in the Union except Vermont. Now what does he do? Accentuate his religious leanings or soft peddle them?

Perhaps his show of religiosity is a show for the benefit of xtians? Once in power he'll be no different than a Ronald Reagan?

I prefer a person for president who doesn't sing songs to giant, magic, comforting baby dolls that live in the sky.

Ronald Reagan never once talked like Cruz.

Cruz is an insane fundamentalist who is dangerous.

Cruz? You might as well elect Duck Dynasty weirdo Phil Roberts.

Oddly enough, Trump still leads the polls despite Republican voters viewing him as not very religious

...
Still, the findings on Trump are particularly striking, Pew pollsters and other experts say, much more so than was the case with past presidential candidates religious Republicans have perceived as less religious or with whose faith they identified with less. That includes Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney.
“We haven’t seen this before in the Republican Party. We haven’t seen this large a number who think a leading contender isn’t religious,” said Greg Smith, an associate director of research at Pew.

So its not a sure thing that going uber-religious will help Cruz win the nomination.

That's what Democrats were saying about Reagan if I recall.

I don't recall that. I recall Reagan being called a great many things, but a fundamentalist was not one of those things.

No they said Reagan was a complete moron who said things like marijuana was the most dangerous drug in the world and greatly escalated the drug war because of ignorance like that, and who started an illegal terrorist war in Nicaragua, funded by selling weapons to Iran, and who's policies have led to the destruction of the middle class.
